Help with insurance

So i currently carry DS and myself on my insurance. There will be a 30 day wait for my insurance to kick in at my new job. To do cobra here my HR just said i would have to pay $755.00 for the month of July!! What have you guys done or what should i do. I would go with out myself but DS has to be covered.

    I am guessing DH has his own?  Can he add DS? 

    Most companies allow you to add someone mid year if you can prove you are losing insurance.

    Yes he does. I would end up putting DS back with me. Would this make a difference?

    Probably.

    We have a two week period each year (enrollment period) that we can freely make changes on our insurance/ benefits, unless there is a "life event" in which you need to add/ remove someone from your insurance (so. birth/ marriage/ divorce OR if you can prove you have lost coverage for a family member due to a lost job).

    I would think that if H was able to add your LO, he (the LO) would have to stay on your H's coverage until the enrollment period comes around again.  Do the math and see if paying for one month of coverage OOP is more or less than the difference in $$ it would be to add DS to your H's coverage until you can switch him to yours.

    I am assuming H's coverage is not as good as your coverage (either more $$ or higher copays?)

    Is there a reason that all of you can't just move to DH's and stay?  When you lose insurance, like @helenahhandbasket said, it is a "change of circumstances" and you can bump over.

    The school will pay for my insurance so i wouldn't want to be on DH's i have to call tonight to see if they also pay for DS's. If they don't then no he could just be on DH's and stay.
