WWYD Car Seat

This is going to be a post and run as I'm pretty sure DD is about to wake up from her nap.

I just noticed there is a worn spot in the fabric of her car seat where it is frayed - I'm pretty sure the velcro from her shoes rubs on it (she is an intense car seat wiggler).  Anyway, it looks like it's been worn through and I'm not sure what to do.  I've started taking her shoes off in the car so that it doesn't get any worse, but is this something you would worry about? It's down at the bottom of the seat obviously.  It's a Diono Radian, if that matters.  I checked the manual, but all it says is not to use if it has been in an accident, or if there is rust on the buckle - nothing specific about the fabric.

Re: WWYD Car Seat

  • That's an aesthetic issue, not a safety one. If you want to replace it, you need to buy one directly from diono as theirs have been crash tested with their seats and are deemed safe. There are a lot of carseat covers sold on esty and the like and as the materials haven't been tested and confirmed safe with the seat and the holes for the harness slots may not line up properly, it is considered very unsafe to buy or use them.

Call Diono and ask is what I'd do.
Ugh, the phone.  I hate the phone.  Sigh.

Oh, I would definitely buy from Diono if I were going to replace it.  I'm just trying to figure out if I need to replace it or not - it isn't worn all the way through and since I'm taking her shoes off now it's not getting worse.

If it's not a safety problem I'll probably just leave it.  Thanks!

    Definitely not a safety issue!

  • I don't think it's a safety issue either. If it were the straps or something similar, then that would be different. From what you're describing, it seems like it's just a cover problem. As long as it doesn't bug you, I wouldn't think you'd need to replace it :)
