Pinching

I am going to try to read up on this during my lunch break, but thought I would ask the all knowing Oct 13 bumpies, too. DS is 7 months old and pinches like a crab! He grabs a hand full of skin and it hurts like hell. So a couple of questions. First - is he too young to teach that this is wrong? Will it even register? Second - if he is not too young, how do you go about teaching him?

Re: Pinching

  • I tell my dd no when she does it. She's knows what no means. I've had to use it when she crawls toward the dog water. She stops.

  • DS pinches too! I hate it because it is usually during a bottle and he decides he wants to pinch our arms or tummy or face, whatever he can reach. I usually tell him no but honestly when he pinches he doesn't get it. Any other time if I tell him no he stops and looks at me and he knows what it means. Even when he does it during play time I tell him no but he looks at me like I'm a crazy woman.

Agreed ladies after reading posts- better to start early and him not understand than until later and he feels he may "have the best of me." I thought a simple "no" would suffice, but I can totally see me using the "aaaa aaaa aaa" dog discipline noise in the moment. Old habits die hard.

  • LO bites us on the shoulder.  We tell him "no, don't do that."  He defintiely gets  it because when we tell him "no" he pouts his lip out and sometimes cries. =(

I have been going with the "no" and then modeling technique.  When she pinches Noodle or me, I say "no" and then have her rub my face or pet Noodle nicely.  She has gotten better with Noodle, but not me :-(

DS is super gentle with our dog, too. Maybe because I have been teaching him gentle pets as soon as he was interested in the dog? I have a Jack Russell terrier and they have little patience.

I tried to avoid "no" at that age and just told DD not to pinch and "be gentle". Try not to react and speak calmly. Then again, and this might be a coincidence, she pinched me hard once and I yelled "ouch", which startled her...she never did it again. ;)

DS does it mostly when he's tired for some reason. Since he's usually falling asleep I don't say anything but I do move his hand away.

If he did it any other time I would move his hand away with a firm "no".

DS pinched me last night when I was feeding him his bottle.  It really caught me off guard and it really hurt so I yelped pretty loud.  It startled him and he didn't do it again.  I will tell him No though if I see him going for me or the dog.

DS just started last week pinching and it caught me off guard, too. He holds on like a vice grip! Sheesh!

  • DD pinches me while BFing and also scratches me in the arm.

When I read your title I thought you were going to say pinching the nips ... For some reason DD has discovered this and often pinches my boob ... She actually got squirted some BM the other day ... Hope she doesn't think this is a game!

Oh goodness! DS actually thinks it is great to pull the bottle nipple out of his mouth and squeeze it. So must be a new baby discovery. Ha!

  • DD pinches allllll the time! She loves to pinch my boobs and nipples too. I tell her no, and be gentle. She tries to grab the dogs hair as well. I tell her no and grab her hand and have her pet the dog while I say be gentle or be nce. Sometimes it clicks, other times she she still grabs.

    Got that right.

I am also being pinched in the boob and arm. My boobs are all bruised and scratched. The worst thing she has been doing while nursing is reaching up and grabbing my face and digging her fingernails into my skin.

I tell her no, that hurts, be gentle, she thinks it's hilarious.

I have the biggest scratch on my nose right now from DS. Of course this happens right before our family pics this weekend. Photoshop is my friend....

  • No pinching here but she likes to grab at my mouth and actually scratched my chin the other day. She does grab at the cats and we have been trying to teach her to be gentle and show her how to pet them. We use no mostly when she's trying to get at the electronics but she just turns and grins, the new tv stand can't come fast enough!

I call ours crotchety allll the time! He is so spiteful too! Does yours fake limp when they're mad at you? Mine does.
You can see the hate in his eyes here.

Oh boy! This made me cackle! He has that look down pat!

No fake limps, but he shits on the air register when we make him mad (I'd gladly take the limp). He will do it in a split second when you go in the other room and he will muster a little turd up regardless of bathroom status. It is kind of a double blow - first pooping and then doing it on the register so the scent wafts about the house. And he is 110% house broke - just spiteful.

Here is mine. Look how thrilled he is to be second fiddle to DS.

  • DD loves to pinch the nips. I usually gently pull her hand away and put something else in her hand and she's good with that.

Now, if someone could tell me how to stop the almost constant hair pulling.....
