Intro and a Fun Question

Hi all,

It seems that a quick introduction is standard here, so I figured I'd start with that. My husband and I just found out that I'm pregnant with our first! EDD is January 23rd, so I'm 5W6D today. We've told a few very close friends and are planning to announce to immediate family on Father's Day. So excited! My theory on announcing is that I don't mind telling people, I just want to keep it limited to a running list of people I can actually keep track of until we're out of the first trimester. That way, if something does happen, we know who to update. That having been said...keeping this secret is so hard! It's nice to have a forum like this where I can read about and talk about all of these pregnancy-related things :)

Now, on to the fun question: What have all of you purchased for Baby so far? Since I'm still so early, I'm really trying to resist the urge to buy things just yet...but figure I can live vicariously through some of you!

I'm happy to be joining you all here...congrats and best wishes to all!

  • Congrats and Welcome! We have not purchased anything yet for baby but I will admit I did already hit up clearance/sales for maternity clothes for next winter since the clothes that are on clearance are last winter's clothes. They are SUPER cheap right now which will help us save money on Maternity clothes for when I'll actually be needing them. I think I can live with my summer wardrobe through fall with Maxi dresses/etc and I honestly don't expect to be showing until I really need winter clothes (fingers crossed since this is our 1st too). I have a due date between the 20th or the 24th. We're not 100% sure yet.
  • We also plan on making announcements on Father's Day!
  • Congratulations and welcome!

I haven't purchased anything for the baby yet but we do have a crib in our attic from my SIL.  And I've done a ton of "window shopping" online LOL

Congrats and welcome! I haven't purchased anything yet but I have a 2 year old so we won't need much.
  • Congrats! We bought a new baby monitor but thats because ours broke. We got one that has two cameras because when the baby gets here they will be in a separate room from E.
  • Congrats! I also bought some winter clearance maternity tops! I got a lion stuffed animal that I used to tell dh and a bed time book. Other than those I will probably wait until my second tri to start buying more.

  • Congratulations and welcome!! I've bought a few outfits/onsies that were on clearance and of course I had to buy some baby 49er gear :)

Congratulations! This is our second, so I likely won't buy anything until we know the sex since we have all the big stuff and will only need clothes if we are having a boy.

  • @Excitedmama2 Thanks! There is a thread here I started with info: https://forums.thebump.com/discussion/12352892/maternity-clothes/p1

But I bought jeans from zulilly.com, tops from H & M. Shopruche (large sweaters on clearance - they don't have a maternity section) and Swap (got a bunch of things on swap!). I also have a cart full from some of the other stores but holding off on buying until we go for our u/s next week!

ps. Anyone doing any fall babymoons in tropical weather should check out ideeli.com today- they have a bunch of cute, flowy dresses for the occasion!
  • Congrats and welcome! We're also planning on telling everyone on Father's Day! The only thing we've bought is a little "mini/travel crib" that kinda resembles a doll's crib which we're going to use for the reveal :). Hubbie and I just bought a house so we're going to have our families over to show them the house and when we get up to the spare bedroom, there's going to be the little crib with a sign on it saying we're expecting! I can't wait!!!

  • Oh, I love that reveal idea. So cute! Congratulations to you as well. Gotta love the ability to take advantage of a Hallmark Holiday like Father's Day for something like this! :)
  • Ok, I don't know how to tag other people...but @joujouwish: I love that idea for maternity clothes. Plus, it gives me an excuse to buy *something*
  • Oops, nevermind...I guess my tag did work! ^

Thanks for the warm welcome and fun responses, everyone!
  • Welcome and congratulations!! We probably won't buy anything until after the first us and we see the heartbeat.

This is the 3rd so we don't NEED ANYTHING lol. We have way more stuff then we would ever need. I did buy big brother shirts someone was selling in a lot on facebook 6 shirts for $10 and I knew the girl I jumped on them at like 6 weeks. Then hid them because I know I should wait. :)

  • congrats and welcome!  i haven't bought anything.  i bought some sleep and plays when i found out i was pregnant in march and then lost the baby, so i'm paranoid that i'll jinx it or something, which is really silly but there it is.  i haven't even browsed the baby section in target.

  • Congrats!! I've avoided the baby sections in any stores so far because I know I will end up buying something! I'll probably wait until we find out if baby is a boy or a girl before I do any shopping.

Congrats and welcome! I purchased an owl chalkboard that we might use for the family announcement. That's probably all I'll buy for a while.
  • Welcome! We're also planning to share our news with family and close friends on Father's Day. (A few people know already, but most do not.)

The only thing I bought was a Big Sister shirt for DD. We won't buy anything for this one until we know if it is a boy or a girl. I have 2 friends who have 6 month-1 year old boys, so if ours is a boy, I know they'll give or lend me most of their stuff, so I'm going to hold off.

  • Welcome. Children's/baby books.
  • Welcome!
I have not purchased anything yet and I most likely will not purchase anything before babe arrives. I have a habit of going shopping on the way home from the hospital. After being cooped up in the hospital I need to get my Target fix in! The only thing we should need is diapers, but the hospital will send me home with a small package and I do have cloth diapers that I can use, I just don't use them unless needed on my newborn.

Yay!  Congrats and welcome!  Haven't purchased anything for the nugget.  The only thing we really need are diapers.  Although I would like to get a JellyCat stuffed animal.

At one of my showers for Milo (family/friends are spread out across multiple states), I received a duck and an owl - totally adorable!  I then used those two in my weekly (then monthly) pictures of Milo to show how much he was growing in comparison, so I'd like nugget to have his/her own as well.

@longcat07 - I'm sorry to hear about your loss. Hopefully we'll all be buying some cute and fun stuff in a few months :)

@hollywooeb - I so won't be able to wait until we find out gender, but I agree, avoiding those sections seems like the safest bet. I ventured into the Target baby section the other day and curbed my urge to splurge by buying my niece a little dress instead.

@nursesouder - You can't pass up a $50 changing table. Per the advice of one of the other ladies here, I did JUST buy a few winter maternity sweaters on super-sale.

@missiemae - Shopping on the way home from the hospital sounds both fun and terrifying to me. Perk? I bet I'd spend less because I'd focus more on necessities!

@SassyMommaC - I completely agree with your comment about the gender-specific stuff. Don't get me wrong, I like pink and think it can be adorable - but I can't stand the overwhelming amount of pink of blue stuff (particularly at showers when people know the gender). Planning to keep it to ourselves until after any theoretical gift-giving for that very reason!

Thanks again everyone for all of the fun responses! Fingers crossed to me maintaining this level of self-control for at least another month or so!
  • Haha so have to admit, I am always on our local baby garage sale site... I have bought ridiculous things, but even have my husband saying things like "but at that price it would be a great buy" haha he is excited! We have purchased a baby jogging stroller, a bath, Bobby, carrier, and hiking carrier!
  • TiffanyJill but I am worried it may be too early. You think people would be offloading them at garage sales in the fall right before winter? Wondering if I should wait for then. I would think people wouldn't necessarily be offloading them right before nice weather...
  • Joujouwish I have been seeing a ton of them at garage sales. Not sure many would get listed in winter, but would probably be a good time to get a sale on a new one. It probably is a little early, but we thought we know we want one and that we hope to have lots of kids so let's just scoop up the good deal :)
  • Welcome and congrats.

I bought two prints for the baby's room since husband and I are hikers/rock climbers I thought these would be perfect.  And I did some window shopping and found bedding that would match the coloring in both.  It's pretty gender neutral so I love it!

  • While ttc after m/c I bought two sets of booties for a boost of baby mojo. It seemed to work! One came with a headband with pink bows, and the other came with a car-shaped wrist-rattle. This way, I have something for either a boy or girl :)
