I couldn't get through the whole article @Helenahhandbasket. From what I could tell the item has been recalled and is not allowed to be sold in the US anymore, but the manufacturing company refused to take back the remaining items from the stores that were selling them.
Gotcha-- I hate to be the jerk that points that out, but yeah-- the parents were not using the product correctly. They had it in the child's crib, which is also how the previous deaths occured.
Not that anyone deserves something so horrific to happen to their precious child, but warnings are in place for a reason.

It looks like an accident waiting to happen. Before I even read the article I guessed what had happened. It's really terrible that children died from it.

I still have ours. The reports came after DD2 was too old and big to be strapped into it. We loved it and never had an issue. As soon as she started rolling over she wasn't put into anymore. I wish people would read instructions before ruining a perfectly good product by using it improperly. Tragic about the deaths, but they were avoidable.

I just saw one advertised the other day was like NOPE. My hypothetical baby is not going in that. Red flags went up for me immediately. I'm so sorry for the loss. Even in negligence, it's absolutely tragic.

I thought originally when they were recalled that all the deaths had to do with improper use, although it didn't say anything about how injuries were caused. I know I read an article on the company that produced them, they weren't from a major brand. It was a mom that designed them and how everything went to crap for her, made me feel bad about her situation, too. I can't imagine trying to develop a product that helped others and then babies die.
I remember these came out when DS was a baby. He had bad reflux and could only sleep in a reclined position.
His pedi specifically me advised me that the only 100% safe place for him was in a crib or bassinet/pack and play without anything else in it except for a rolled up blanket under the mattress to keep him reclined. It scared me away from products like these.
It just makes me so sad because I know how desperate parents of newborns are to get some sleep for baby and themselves. And I feel like products like this capitalize on that at the risk of safety.
On the other side of the coin, whose to say the person who invented this product wasn't another totally exhausted sleep deprived mom solely looking for a sleep solution herself, and for others?
I hate the blame game, I really do. No one wins.
Perhaps, but they're unwillingness to make every effort to get their product off the market once it was confirmed that it posed a significant danger kind of makes them dicks. No?
I have zero sympathy for any manufacturer whose product has been shown to kill people by design and not solely just due to user error (which has been confirmed in this case) and yet they refuse to a complete and thorough recall to ensure no more children are harmed.
Blame game my ass. Continuing to sell a dangerous product that has resulted in multiple deaths is just fucked up.
All the deaths that occurred (maybe not all the injuries) but the deaths were when the product was used improperly.
She was a mom whose infant only liked to sleep in the infant carseat, so she designed this product to mimic the shape.
Sorry guys, yesterday turned ugly for me and I didn't have a chance to come back on this thread to comment.
I only put this up to warn parents to be careful if looking at this product. My intention wasn't to lay blame on the parents or the manufacturer for that matter. I appologize to anyone that was hurt or made angry by this thread, again that was not my intention.
Re: "Nap Nanny” infant recliner Safety recall (News story contains a child's death)
Horrible and super sad, but if I am reading correctly, the parents weren't using the product correctly? It's not supposed to go in the crib.
Any baby product can become unsafe/ potentially deadly if you misuse it.
