I need your help again. DH and I came across a few more names that we like, but my fear is that they may be too "exotic" or "fancy". We live in a very rural area in Northern Michigan. You don't often hear names outside of the regular around here. We came across these two names for Baby Girl, but I fear that people (ILs included) will side eye us because the names don't seem to fit in around this area. Perhaps tell me how silly I'm being, and choose which name you like better? :-/

Seriously, though, regional dialects aside, I still like Vera better than Veda. Veda reminds me of My Girl, and I can't get past that. I think Vera is a lovely, classic old lady name. But I agree with whoever said that the fact that the names are not too common in your area should definitely not be a deterrent to you in picking a name - I would see that as a benefit!
It sounds like a very classic name for your rural area. We live in a small town country setting with very old fashioned morals so I know what you're saying. I think Vera is beautiful and any of the middle names would go great. I really like the sound of Vera Jane... I guess it would depend on the last name too.
And Veda wouldn't have the Star Wars connection anywhere else in the country. I really dislike strong RI accents, but my mom and everyone in DH's family have really heavy ones, so I'm terribly conscious of it when thinking about names. We really loved the name Marley for DD, but I eventually ruled it out because everyone would've pronounced it like Molly. And when I corrected them, they would've started over-pronouncing the R, and that would've sounded equally ridiculous.
