If anyone here has experience with this, could you please help me figure this out? I will be calling my doctor tomorrow AM but for now, wondering what to do….
I've been having this intermittent sharp pain in my right breast for a few days. It has been very infrequent, but today has been a lot more pronounced. I am still BFing DS once or twice a day - he is nearly 16 months now and has A LOT of teeth. He's cutting his incisors right now (sharp!) and while the top ones were coming through about 1.5 weeks ago, one night he kind of clamped down or latched weird, and it hurt. It wasn't a bite per se, but uncomfortable. I noticed a small whitish sore on my nipple after that, but no blood or obvious injury, so I just applied lanolin and then nursed from the other side for the next few feedings and didn't think much. It remained sort of sore, though, till about 3 days ago, when this more sharp pain began to happen. It feels like a hot needle going through my nipple! There is also a little bit of dried yellowish discharge.
Till 3 days ago was doing AM/PM feeds, but I'm working on dropping the night feed right before bed. I'm having a hard time discerning whether this pain is a natural part of adjustment during the weaning process, or if its a sign of something more concerning like the start of an infection or something. I don't have a fever and there aren't other symptoms (aside from insane fatigue, but then again I'm also 12 weeks pregnant with baby #2 and tired).
Any experience with something like this? Thanks in advance.
