Index finger pointing to whole hand pointing?

My DS just turned 15m last week and he's been pointing for a little over a month. Before that he used his whole hand, but was able to get his needs met. He's been a little later on social milestones, so I was so relieved to see this one develop.

Well, the last couple days he seems to have reverted back to the whole hand point for the most part. Could this be a typical toddler development setback while he works on something else? Trying to turn to some who might have practical advice rather than google, as it's already scaring the crap out of me!

Re: Index finger pointing to whole hand pointing?

  • Thanks @Erin KM! I guess I was just really taken aback because he went to point to EVERYTHING to kind of well, not. Could also be a phase - I suppose I can't expect him to do it forever, and he does seem to be really working on his language; not a ton of words yet, but he is chatty chatty. And yes, he still gestures to things he wants like your son, it's just not the dramatic point that I've seen a lot over the last month.

All the info on the internet about the important of x, y, z, including pointing, just makes me crazy. Especially with boy!
