Dialated to 4

in 3rd Trimester
Went to the OB today and I'm dialated to 4 and 90% effaced. I was under the impression once you reached 4 they admitted you into L&D Does anyone know anything about this? Or is there a certain number they will admit you? Or am I wishful thinking?

    Wishful thinking, they wont admit you till your in labor! Keep going mom! Almost there!

    Also i had a friend walk around for 2 weeks at a five! When she went in to labor she had her son a few hours later! :) maybe you will get a short labor? :) good luck!

    Started TTC in 2006, LOTS of trying, and trying, and 7 rounds of IVF with 13 embryos, 2 perfect little boys and 5 loses....
    All finished with babies, started to make diet changes, Keto, to be MORE for my kids, lost 30 pounds, still going, and 3 months in, I had a natural cycle, and then ovulated... Hubs and I are going to see what happens now... Maybe a natural pregnancy? After everything we have been through? Or just a return to normal hormones? We shall see what the future holds!

    Wishful thinking. I was progressed to 5cm & they didn't want me in until active, painful omg-let-me-in labor.

    Maybe...

    Labor & babies are tricky mofoes.

    Example: came into L&D with my daughter at 39 weeks. 6cm progressed & contractions 30 seconds apart. My labor was four hours.

    With DS I was walking around for a week at 4cm, then the last week at 41weeks at 5cm. Contractions every night at 8 minutes apart from 38 weeks onward. DS was born after 14 hours.

    I hope OP has a short & sweet labor. However, any progress in addition to active labor is just icing on the cake. It's not usually a clear indicator of how labor will go.

    My first preg I hit 4cm at about 37w and stayed that way for 2 weeks until DD was born @ 39w2d. Good luck!!

    Yeah, doesn't really mean much - sorry.  You could be there for weeks.  Internal checks just mess with your head…which is one reason I decline them ;)

    They admit you if you're in active labor.

    The guidelines for what counts as 'active labor' have been revised to 6cm.  If you're not actively contracting and you're at 4cm you could go for days or longer.  But it means that much less work for you to do before the baby comes.  FWIW, I walked around at a 5/6cm for several weeks before going into labor with my 3rd baby.
