Is anyone having trouble with milk supply? Or does any one have and advise?

So my little bundle of joy was born on April 13th at 33 weeks via c section (which I know can sometimes delay production)but I was hoping that by now with home being almost 2 months old that it would come in more. I have done reading and know what is kind of hindering me, the fact that I was on magnesium, had a c section, and that he was a premiee. I have also done reading and talked to 5 different lactation consultants. They all had the same general message but then each had different tricks that I tried. I drink the tea, I have tried pumping every 4,3, and 2 hours I have tried the hour pump (10mins on then off) I just ordered lactation cookies and these herb capsules my doctor and I talked about, I just really don't want to give up but it's getting hard and really hitting me to the point were I'm crying every day not to mention my nipples are so sore. I really really don't want to give up and I know some is better then nothing but it's hard when it's not consistent and Sometimes not even a quater of an oz drone both boobs. I'm sorry this is so long but I need help and to know I'm not going thru this alone any tips please!!!

I'm so sorry that you are struggling with this. It feels like you failed when you really have not.

With my first, I struggled with this issue. I never got to the point where I was able to exclusively feed him breast milk even with fenugreek but one suggestion that helped was to nurse/pump at night every 2-3 hours.

Also, have you tried the steel cut oatmeal or beer?

One of the things i think that really hindered me was that lo never successfully nursed. I think if i had gotten him on my nipples even just to suckle or lick or whatnot, I would have had better luck. Are you trying to have your lo nurse?

/hugs. I hope it gets easier on you.

Don't really have much advice other than what PPs have already said. But just wanted to give some support and let ya know I'm kind of in the same boat. My supply diminished a lot a little while ago and I can't get it back up. Pumping is leaving me sore. I can't pump as much as I need to to try and bring it back up. And on top of it everyone is telling me that I need to give more time for myself before I wear myself out (like sleep when she sleeps and whatnot). Uh yeah, can hardly do the little things like the baby's dishes and whatnot during the day, let alone pump extra and sleep!

I hear ya OP... pumping sucks and it's hard. But whatever you decide to do at least you gave LO what you could.

@aimee223 thank you for your post. That's exactly how I am feeling now. I feel so bad for not being able to produce enough and super guilty for even thinking about formula. I am pumping every 2 hours, drinking the tea, pills every 4 hours, massages, compress, and still I am barely making enough. I just want to spend more time with him instead of the pump (or if at least made enough).

@Llynn23 you aren't alone and you aren't giving up. You are doing a lot already. The herb pills did increase my supply, they may do wonders for you. I know it's frustrating whatever you decide to end-up doing at least you'll know you did your absolute best.

Oh, I just went to my OB because of my nipples and they recommended using Aquaphor before and after pumping (I had used medela lanolin and coconut oil but they were still super sore and under much pain). My doctor said that they should feel better by Wed or to go back to see her. So far it's helping because pumping so often does get painful.

I also have problems with low supply. I  agree with the heating pads and I have found that massage and manual compressions during pumping also helps. I tried the tea with no improvement. I currently am taking fenugeek and I feel like its finally starting to help and I have been taking it for 2 weeks, but still I am supplementing with formula and have come to terms with it. It is more important for him to be happy and well fed then me stressing out so much about it. Plus he is still getting BM and the benefits of it. Good luck.

I was taking fenugreek and using brewer's yeast to up my supply when I stopped being able to keep up with DS and it didn't really help. Talk to your dr! I didn't know it but I mentioned it in passing at my 6 week pp check up and she prescribed me a pill to take 3 times a day and my supply jumped up by the next morning! I'm pumping 6-8 oz every 3-4 hours now and storing as much as I can just in case. I had no idea there were actual meds to boost your supply. Don't give up ☺️ What I'm taking now is metoclopramide but my dr said there were several options.
