Any ladies with thyroid problems?

I'm just curious what your symptoms were, how you got it under control, how/why you got checked? Did you have it before pregnancy or did it happen after?

Re: Any ladies with thyroid problems?

  • Maybe. My TSH numbers have always been low. Every time I go to the doctor they check it because I can't seem to loose weight. I'm seeing an endocrinologist next month.  My RE thinks I have sub clinical hypo thyroid. Or maybe it's hyper, I can't ever keep it straight. Anyway, it looks like I'm borderline something.

I'm thinking about calling and getting checked. My energy level is seriously worse than when I was first pregnant. And I'm exercising and trying to get my levels up but it's not working. I'm eating pretty darn healthy, not drinking any caffeine (I don't usually anyway). J is sleeping through the night. I'm taking a 30-60 minute nap each day plus a solid 8+ hours of sleep. I literally feel like I'm struggling. I'm just wondering if it's something outside of my control.

  • I will. It wouldn't hurt to have a blood test done. It sounds like you've tried pretty much everything already.

  • I was borderline hypo when we started our fertility treatments, which is why they checked.  I was on meds throughout TTC and pregnancy but at my PP appt she took me off of them.  I've considered having it looked at again though.  I didn't have any real symptoms, my energy levels have always been pretty low though.

  • I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism long before my first pregnancy. I was fatigued a lot and experienced more headaches. I have low iron a lot too...which some people say can make you tired.

Maybe get your vitamin B levels checked as well? My dr checks those sometimes.

    Good luck!

  • Will do, @BlueJewelM
    Thank you ladies!

  • I'm late but I am hypothyroid. I was diagnosed a few years back for fatigue and extreme joint pain. To be honest the treatment hasn't helped either so I'm thinking I have something else going on too. Since getting pregnant I've been really bad controlled, they up my meds I get over corrected and become hyper, the back down and I'm too low again. I'm like 3 months behind getting it checked but who has time for a doctors qppointment for themselves these days, unless you're dying.

@ashleyamberRN I'm sorry the medication hasn't helped and it's been so up and down for you. :( Hopefully it sorts itself out or you get on the right dosage/medication.

I agree... it's hard to find time to go to the doctor for yourself. I've just come to the conclusion recently that I need to worry about my health to make sure I'm a good mama for J. I've been a bit irritable lately with the fatigue and I know I've had a shorter fuse than I should have for him. I feel awful so I really want to get it checked out. I also have to call the chiropractor today. I think I'm wayyy out of whack. FUN! :-q

  • I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism while pregnant with my little girl. Intense fatigue, fogginess, and chills - of course since it was winter in MN most people have similar symptoms, but my levels came back all out of wack. It looks like I will be taking replacement hormone for the rest of my life now. Maybe I was hypo before but never really got tested. Being pregnant and nursing really messes with your hormone levels in all areas of your body. It is important that you advocate for yourself and listen to your body. Start writing symptoms down when you have them and for how long. Those notes will help you get a diagnosis and the correct treatment.

I thought my thyroid was having issues for this very reason, too.. And we have a strong family history of it. But supposedly I just have too low of vitamin D.

Do any of you ladies get joint pain?  My parent's neighbor was just diagnosed with a thyroid issue because he has pain in his ankles/knees and there was no good reason why.  So he has me thinking.  My issue is...I can hardly walk down the stairs in the middle of the night - my feet/ankles hurt so much and I need the railing to basically hold my weight...there are times where I turn myself around and go down on hands/knees.  :-(  Doesn't help that DD sleeps on the main floor and we're on the 2nd.

Anyone have a joint issue that was related to thyroid?
  • @kanned0121 I'll definitely ask about having all my blood work checked. I also wonder if I could be anemic. My sister constantly struggles with it.

@ludali Ouch lady! :( I'm sorry :( I feel like that on occasion but I chalk it up to water retention or poor circulation. And it's not NEAR as bad as how you describe it. I would definitely get checked out. <3 AND BE SAFE! Or make DH go! :P

  • @ludali‌ I have really really bad chronic joint pain. Since being diagnosed with hypothyroid it actually hasn't gotten better, but has seemed to spread to more joints. I've been to a rheumatologist but she was horrible and pretty much dismissed me. I think she may have thought I was drug seeking. Sorry you're feeling bad. That has been one of the hardest things about motherhood. I don't get a chance to lay in the bed with my legs elevated and take strong pains meds when I'm feeling my worst cause I can't pause baby.
