When tums don't work

What do you do when tums don't kill the heartburn??? It's excruciating...I feel like I can feel the acid burning up my throat. Any suggestions?

This thread is about nausea, so not the same, but some of these suggestions could help:

I haven't had much heartburn this time, but last time I ate candied ginger, drank soda water, and drank aloe juice and apple cider vinegar. I also ate a lot of carbs. :) There's a prescription you can get, Zantac, but idk about during pregnancy. Your doctor might be able to help.

I forgot about the apple cider trick, I'll try that. Thanks!

Drinking a glass if milk helps mine sometimes. Good luck!

    Aloe Vera water helps, too.

definitely check with your doctor first.  i have GERD and was on prescription omeprazole (prilosec...it was cheaper with a script) before, but it's category C, so my OB put me on zantac instead and that's been working much better than i thought it would.  zantac is category B.

I had it bad in my 3rd trimester when I was pregnant with DD...I don't like regular milk, so I drank a lot of chocolate milk & that always worked for me.

I was on a prescription antacid last time, that I got from my ENT. You could ask your doctor about a stronger medication.

Papaya enzyme- It was a chewable tablet. I used it last pregnancy and it really helped. Got it at Whole Foods.

Tums didn't help me either during my last pregnancy. I took pepcid instead (which is safe during pregnancy) and it helped a ton!

We use USANA Active Calcium tablets for heart burn or acid reflux. So far we're a tums free home.
