Top teeth coming in - ouch

DS2 is almost 10 months, already has his bottom teeth, and now the top two are coming in. Nursing is painful again because I can feel his top teeth when he's feeding. This didn't happen with his bottom teeth. Please tell me that this too shall pass?? He's not biting, it's just uncomfortable and I can see the skin getting raw, so I'm just treating it with breastmilk right now and was thinking of using coconut oil, too. Any advice?

    This too shall pass.

It should only last a few days, then LOs latch and your nipple will get used to the change and it'll be fine.

  • This happened to me. It will get better when the teeth get worn down a little. In the meantime I would sometimes nurse upside down so that the teeth would hit a different spot and let the first spot heal. I did this lying in bed with his feet pointing the opposite way of mine.

  • Thanks, ladies! I just really needed that reminder his new teeth won't feel like razors forever, Lol. And @TheBorg7of9‌ , I switched up his position this morning from cradle to football, so I guess I'll just keep working my way around :)
  • It will pass. My LO did bite and that was painful :( I hope your LO doesn't bite you ever! and that his latch corrects soon

  • LO went through a phase like this for about a week after he got his top teeth.  It will definitely pass!

Every once in a while, LO has a couple days where he's toothy while nursing, but that too is just a phase.  Give your LO a little time to get used to those new chompers!
