Fleas

Ok who has had a problem with these pesky bastards and how did you take care of it? Our dogs are outdoor but I guess their fleas hop on our legs so now they are inside and little miss Cooper has been a target. We've been staying at fil house because we fogged the house but that hasn't worked. Any ideas? Remedies? I really don't wanna burn the house down but if it comes to that I guess i have no choice !

Re: Fleas

  • Call a pro. It's more money upfront, but all the money you will spend on DIY treatments will end up costing more. Also, have the yard treated.
Long run, the dog's need to be treated monthly with a flea and tick product like K9 Advantix or Frontline Plus. Heartworm preventives like Sentinel have medication (lufenuron) that acts on adult fleas that will also help. If you can get your hands on some Capstar, that will start killing the existing adult fleas in about an hour.

  • Yea we started treating the dogs a couple weeks ago but it hasn't worked. I'm sure it takes some time though. Thank y'all! I will be washing everything!!

  • We had a problem recently. It was reallylong and hard battle. I treated the dog with every possible over the counter drug and called professional pest control to spray the house, washed every sheets and carpets and the fleas would still come back! The only thing that worked was a prescription drug for the dog called "comfortis". Its a strong shit, but my dog tolerated it ok. Now I give her a dose every month and the fleas are gone for good. Knock on woods...

  • This may seem stupid, never had a flea issue. But why not treat the dogs and get them on a preventative so they don't have fleas, in turn none get into the house? I know a lot of farm/outside dogs here who don't ever get fleas (maybe your area is different though).
This is what my mom does. She has indoor/outdoor dogs. She has to keep the dogs treated otherwise the fleas get out of hand. She had an outbreak once and like PP mentioned she had to wash everything, clean the carpets, etc. It was a huge PITA. I hope you are able to clear yours up
