Rolling on to side

My sweet darling one month old has started to turn and try to roll onto her side when in her bassinet. Of course I'm a crazy first time mom and super worried about SIDS and her not sleeping on her back. Should I be concerned? What can I do to keep her on her back, she just lies on her side if I don't turn her!?

Re: Rolling on to side

  • Does she only turn to one side? I know they say not to put blankets in the crib with them but when my LO would sleep in her bassinet she would do the same. So i rolled a blanket and put it next to her bottom and feet on the side she was rolling on. I used it as a wedge but made sure it was away from her face.

FWIW I'm super freaked out about SIDS also. And my baby refuses to sleep longer than 10 mins unless she's laying on my chest or next to me in bed. I don't know how to break this. I'm a mess cause I barely sleep worried that blankets, pillows, dogs, ect are going to suffocate her.

Lots of babies prefer to sleep on their sides.. mine has done this since we got home from the hospital and he's still alive. If you're worried, I'd suggest getting a Snuza:

I got one with my baby monitor setup and it has an alarm that goes off if the baby hasn't take a breath in x-amount of seconds. We use ours at night so that we feel comfortable turning out the lights (he sleeps in a bassinet in our room) and it *has* go
Same here. We have a snuza.

Ours does the same thing and the pedi said it's fine.

  • Mine is a side sleeper as well. He only has one arm free right now (his arm was broken during labour) but he tends to roll onto his left side, so his bandaged arm is up. He can't roll himself into that position that well, but he seems to find himself there eventually. I have a feeling once his sling comes off he will be a full on side sleeper because he'll have more leverage to get himself onto either side.
