Bringing LO to salon??

I really need to get a highlight touch up & cut... Headed out of state to a wedding in less then 2wks. DH is traveling for work then will be out of town for a bachelor party this coming weekend so I am out of weekends to go before I leave.

Is it bad/weird to bring DD with me? There may be 1 evening I can go when DH gets home from work, but I think my hair may take longer then the time they close...

Re: Bringing LO to salon??

  • Great, I was hoping I could bring her! I am also so bored in this small town that its nice to have reasons to get our of the house & have something to do during the day!

  • If I only had one kid I would do it if I absolutely needed it. As it is I can't take two kids with me so I cut my own hair last weekend. I do feel conflicted about the color job however. I don't really feel comfortable with me or my kids around those fumes.
  • I think it depends on the baby.  At this point (8 weeks), DS wouldn't stay quiet / happy long enough during the day for me to take him.  4 weeks ago, it would have been a different (quieter) story!

I took my twins when I got a pedicure. My mom came too and we each held one. I used an Ergo. I just fed and chsnged right before so they were happy. Get your hair cut. Enjoy!

I'd check with the salon. Our salon isn't a place where kids get haircuts, but my stylist said Josie was welcome while she was little and portable. Tht being said, I wouldn't bring her to my appointments because when I get color they tend to be 3-4 hours long, and if she cried or needed nursing I wouldn't be able to do much about it. I'd bing her to just a cut, though, if I couldn't get DH to watch her and it was an emergency. I'd still check with the salon though. Last thing you want is to bring her and it to not be okay, but for the place to not say anything for fear of offending you. Been in so many situations where bringing kids wasn't appropriate, but no one said anything and it was just super awkward.

If you ask me what I came to do in this world, I, an artist, I will answer you:
I am here to live out loud!
  • I got highlights last week; my stylist is set up in her home so it was a baby friendly environment. Got the job done but it wasn't relaxing! Leo slept while she put the foils in, then while they sweet I nursed and changed two blowouts, then held him while she rinsed me and most of the time during the cut.

  • I called to cancel my previously scheduled hair appt about a week ago because my husband couldn't get home from work to watch the baby. My stylist called back and told me to please not cancel just because of the baby. I ended up taking him and he slept the entire time in his stroller (which is highly unusual for him).

However- my salon doesn't do nails and doesn't have a strong chemical odor. I'm going out of town this weekend with some friends and we're planning to get a pedicure. I don't know if I feel comfortable taking him into a nail salon so I'll probably leave him with my husband.

  • a friend of mine tried this and it was a disaster. an hour in the baby got fussy and needed her attn. the rest of the appt. it wasn't a kid friendly place and she could tell the styalist was getting annoyed w all the delays

  • I agree with the previously posted comments, it depends on the salon/hairstylist. As a hairstylist myself, I don't mind when a client brings their child or baby to an appointment. Some of my coworkers though, not so much! Most clients will time appointment around a nap schedule and it doesn't pose a problem at all.

One thing to take into consideration is that your stylist does have a schedule to keep. As much as I love babies, it does get frustrating if the client has to continuously tend to her baby while I'm trying to do a good job on her hair. If the haircut or color application keeps getting interrupted, it's rather annoying, and I would not want to be late for my next client. I had one client with highlights in her hair. It was time to rinse out her foils and she kept telling my assistant to "just give her a couple more minutes" so she could finish nursing. I was not about to have her hair over processed or have that affect the quality of my work.

Just try to schedule the appointment around a time that your baby will be more content and you should be fine. Most of the time everyone wants to stop by the stroller and see a sweet little baby so you should be fine!

  • As a stylist I would honestly hate when people brought their babies. Cut/color would take so much longer because the moms would have to take the baby out and feed her or hold her because the noises in the salon made it pretty difficult to sleep. And we only have two hours for each appointment. You can't hold a baby while someone is painting chemicals on your hair or cutting it. One lady breast fed her baby under the cape, and I'm not really sure how that baby could breath in there. I would find any way possible to avoid the stress and hassle for everyone involved.

  • I brought DD to a highlight appt. my stylist is the only one in her salon though and she always plans for 4 hours for my hair. Dd slept most of the time and I nursed her while she was putting foils in my hair.
  • That's why I love appointment , and is important to tell about the baby I will put 1 hour and 1/2 extra .
I had a client with a 6 week old baby after the foils she nursed the baby we stop 2 more times (bathroom ,diaper change ) and she was all beautiful .
