Baby has terrible pain after eating

HELP!! My 2 1/2 month old has always had gas but in the past week it has become terrible. About 30 mins after every feeding he has terrible gas and just screams when passing has and burping. I burp him several times during each feeding and have tried rubbing his back, tummy massage, and cycling his legs and nothing works. Simethicone drops and gripe water do not seem to have any effect on him. We've switched from similac sensitive, to similac discomfort, and now to enfamil nutramigen and have seen no change. Have also tried playtex nurser bottles and dr brown. Im running out of options and looking for some relief. Any suggestions???

Have you checked for an upper lip tie and posterior tongue tie? These issues mainly affect breastfed babies, but in some cases give bottle fed babies problems too. If they can't latch and suck properly because of a lip or tongue restriction, it causes them to gulp down air, which in turn causes excessive gas, reflux, colic, and general pain and discomfort after eating. Just something to rule out if you haven't already.

  • Talk to your doc.  My baby is very gassy, but my doc said that as long as she doesn't seem bothered by it it's ok, but if she's in pain I need to call right away.
