Have we done this before? What does your LO's name mean and what is its origin? Did you take that meaning or its origin into consideration when you picked it?
Julia means "downy-haired, youthful" and it's Latin. I didn't really care about the meaning or origin but I did look it up before I decided on the same. Maybe if it was a totally dumb meaning I wouldn't have picked it. Haha.
Going into the delivery room we had it narrowed down to Asher and Kai (Hawaiian for ocean). Well I was induced for low amniotic fluid, and when my water broke there was almost nothing. Therefore Kai didn't seem to really fit. And the nurses kept saying "happy baby" even though they didn't know the names. So that is how we decided.
Sheknows.com says Mia means "a wished for child" thats latin. and i have also read "mine". Both were taken into account. I wanted a name that means something.
Behindthename.com says the name is Sweden, norwegian, dutch, german, and danish.... Thats a lot of countries.
Rhys is a Welsh name, it means 'ardor' or 'enthusiasm' apparently. Audrey is old English meaning 'noble strength'. DS1 is Declan which is an Irish saint's name without a meaning. We apparently just like the British Isles... we might need to have another baby so we can get a Scots name in there too!
Luke means light. The biblical meaning is luminous, white light. The Greek meaning is light giving. I think this name is perfect for our first child because we struggled for so long, and he is the light of our lives! Sounds cliche, but he is!!
Luke in the bible was known as the beloved physician, another fitting meaning since it took many physicians to get him here!! Paul is my husbands name and that is Luke's middle name. Paul means humble or small.

Well I never thought about this actually. Two sources say Caroline means manly. Then the next one I found says it means "Song of Happiness." I'll go with that one. It is such a catchy song (but she's not named b/c of it)...and yes, I DO sing it to her. A lot.
Most of my pregnancy we leaned toward the name Lux, which means light in Latin. I loved the meaning and the name and if we have another girl will probably use it.
Scarlett means red (shocking, I know) or more specially someone who sells cloth of a red color. I didn't care one way or the other about the meaning. She came out feisty and spirited which made us decide she was a Scarlett, not a Lux.
Her middle name is Cecilia, which is the patron saint of musicians and music. We aren't religious, but I think it is a nice association.
MH just looked this up yesterday out of curiosity. Julian literally means "belonging to Julius". So no, we didn't take the meaning into consideration. Strange that we didn't though because I'm a nerd for this kind of thing.
For us the bigger meaning are his initials. His father and paternal grandfather are both JJs and so is he. It was also important that it work well with an Italian last name.
Colton means dark or coal/cola town. Idk maybe he will be in the soda business one day. We just liked it!
Eta: ds1 Ethan means strong willed and that kid lives up to his name! We knew what his name meant and he was a premie so needed a good strong name. Plus it's mh Name and my name mashed together Ds2 Trenton only meaning I could find is a city in NJ.
Anya (true spelling is Aine, but we didn't want her to grow up with it being mispronounced and a burden on her so we spelled it phonetically), is an ancient Irish name; in Irish mythology Aine was queen of the Munster fairies, a goddess of summertime, and included as a character in many of the myths. I love the history of the name. We first heard it while on a trip to Ireland, fell in love with it immediately, and I decided if I ever had another daughter that would be her name. Sure enough, a few months later...
ETA: Quinn is her middle name; no real meaning (I think it was originally an Irish surname) but we love it and think it fits with her first name really well.
Isla is Scottish and it means "Island." For us, it was just a name we loved, but we like the meaning too, since we like to travel to tropical islands. I heard about it on the Baby Name Board.
May, her middle name that we use a lot, is our anniversary month.
My first, Maeve, is in legend an Irish warrior queen. It also means, "she who intoxicates". Her middle name, Amelia, was my grandmother's name and one of the most kick ass women I knew.
James, our second, is named after my father in law. Martin, his middle name, is my dad's name. Both men are people I hope my son emulates.
It's a family name. My daughter is named Mae, and funny enough Will and Mae were married.
He had a different name going into delivery and then my H saw him in the NICU while I was still all hooked up and declared that he wasn't a John. He was Will. And he wanted his baby named after him (middle name), which wasn't even in the plans. I loved the new name so was completely on board.
I stumbled on the name Matthew after someone misheard me say something about my nephew and asked who Matthew was. For some reason it just sounded perfect. However we did know that it means "gift of god" before we delivered. Neither of us are religious though.
His middle name Rhys was on our list from the beginning and DH picked because it sounded good with Matthew. It's meaning has already been mentioned on here.
Arthur is a very old Celtic name and means "bear." We did know this but it's not why we named him Arthur; he's named after my maternal grandfather (and great grandfather too, actually) who just passed in February.
His middle name is Francis, which is Latin, about as old as Arthur, and means Frenchman or free man. We knew that too, but it's also not why we chose it. We both thought it went well with Arthur, and I loved the association with my favorite saint. It pacified my inner ex-Catholic for sure!
William: resolute protector We loved the sound of the name and really wanted something classic Alexander: helper and defender of mankind My husband picked out his middle name, it sounded strong enough to stand next to William Between the two names sounds like I have a little white night in the making!
Never looked this up until right now. Aubrey means "King of the elves" haha, that's awesome! Obviously didn't use the meaning when deciding on the name...
I couldn't find any history or meaning for Elizanne, but that never factored into my decision. I only looked because I was curious. I heard it years ago in a John Updike short story and fell in love with it. Both the name and the story, actually. So I told my husband that if we ever had a daughter, this would be her name.
Olivia means olive tree, and was apparently first used by Shakespeare in Twelth Night. Also not a factor, but I like the history.
Harper means "harp player. Super original. We wanted an uncommon/original name. Her middle name, Alexis, was chosen by DH. I told him he could pick the middle name so we didn't have to name our future son Trever Jr.
Layla means night, but we didn't pick it because of the meaning.
Actually, we picked it because my husband has always wanted a daughter named Layla. He's named after a poet who wrote poems for Layla. I thought it was a really sweet idea, and very sentimental for someone who is not the sentimental type. So I went with it.
Lily means, "Lily flower. Pure. The flower lily is a symbol of innocence; purity and beauty."
We did not take this into account when naming her. MH picked Lily without knowing that it was my maternal grandma's nickname. And her middle name Jo is after my maternal grandfather who passed away on my mom's due date with me. I missed meeting him by two weeks.
Harper means : Harpist :-/ and its English . I never looked up the meaning , We just loved the name. I had it picked out before I even knew what I was having. And her middle name is Nicole which is mine and DH;s name is Nicholas so it works !
Married : ** 09/09/2011 ** BFP : 07-18-13 ** Baby #1 is a GIRL , Born 03/12/14 **
Eli means "my God" or "ascension". We didn't pick it because of it's meaning though. We chose Eli because we liked the name and the E is for my grandfather Eric. Jewish tradition is to name children after beloved deceased family members, either using their actual name or using the first letter of their name.
Married 11/23/11, TTC starting 10/12, BFP#1 11/30/12, Adoption of stepson finalized 03/19/13,Loss of our daughter at 20w4d due to incompetent cervix 03/27/13, BFP#2 06/28/13, DS2 born 3/1/14.
Our son's name is Maxwell (we call him Max). It originated from Scotland, but in the English language means "Capable". We had no idea what it meant before we named him, but ironically it's incredibly fitting for his personality. I'd say God had a lot to do with that coincidence ♥
Elizabeth means consecrated by god and we didn't even look before we named her, which is good since DH isn't a fan if religion and that may have changed his mind.
My son Benjamin means son of right hand, also biblical and also not a factor. I choose to not tell DH these meanings.
