I have been trying to wean my LO during the day and I don't think it is going very well. How much does your LO still nurse? Just wondering if I am being realistic with wanting to wean during the day.
We nurse all the time. He nurses pretty much all morning. Then every two-three hours all day, or whenever he needs it. We're not on a schedule, I let him have his booby whenever he wants. I plan on letting him self-wean though, so I don't know if I'm any help.
I was originally going to allow her to self wean, but now I am ready to be done. I would even be happy if just gave me a break during the day. She nurses a lot like your LO, so I am just going to have to go with the flow. I am not into her CIO or denying her, so i will just have to wait. I wonder if other May babies are nursing as much as ours?
Now that I'm back to work I pretty much just nurse him in the morning and evening. But on the weekends DS will nurse maybe 2 sometimes 3 times between morn and night. He has been nursing less during the day for about a month now. There are some days when he will nurse more often but I think he is just wanting to snuggle more then actually want milk.
A nurses to wake up. She will nurse in her sleep before she wakes and then as she wakes too. She nurses about 4-7 times a day not including her sleep/waking nursing. Every time she naps she nurses to sleep and to wake as well. A also nurses if she gets hurt but only for a moment. Through the night she also nurses as she sleeps and to go to sleep in the first place. Sorry if this was written poorly.
I expect she will slow down but she is a very nervous, anxious baby (I should say toddler I guess) and I don't want to take away anything that gives her comfort. I think it is normal for many babies to slow down their nursing after a year. A hardly eats solids which is probably why she is still going strong with the breastfeeding.
My guy nurses about 3 times during the day but allllll night long! We bed share & when he wakes up I just nurse him so neither of us wake up too much but he loves to nurse/sleep the whole night!
He's my 3rd baby and there is a huge difference in solid food intake and nursing frequency between 12 and 18 months so if you're hoping it will lessen but don't want to force it, just give it a few more months.
He nurses in the early morning (more of a dream feed that I wake him for before leaving for work) and then before bed, on the weekends when we are together all day, he nurses before his morning nap, but now that I am done pumping at work Ill be swapping that out for a sippy of milk starting this weekend.

@sugarfingers I am hoping for a little reduction. I just feel like the more I pull away from it, the more she wants it. She just might be one of those longer breadtfeeders. Plus, we co-sleep too which doesnt all encourage weaning. It does seem more about attachment to me than nutrition. She eats like a horse.
I wanted to continue nursing until 18 months, but now I am done! I am still nursing a lot, in the morning when he wakes and every 3 hours until bedtime. He also still wakes up a lot at night. I have tried giving WCM already, but he doesn't care for it and he isn't a champ with solids yet, so I think I will be nursing for a lot longer.

I am jealous of @bhjones1980 and @jesselayne8 beautiful schedules:)
I credit this schedule to being a working mom and that he had to adjust very early (at three months) to a bottle schedule at day care and get used to not nursing all day long.
He still nurses all day. Approximately every three hours and twice in the middle of the night. I haven't introduced any other type of milk and am thinking about doing some almond and/or coconut during the day. But I'm just not there yet, I don't think.
J nurses first thing in the morning and then right before bed. I had a pretty easy transition (not counting a plugged duct). He had been self weaning. He was eating two additional times during the day, but only for a couple of minutes, so I took that as a sign. In the next week or so I'll be dropping the morning feeding (replacing it with WCM) and then a week or two later, dropping the evening feeding. I wouldn't be in such a rush, but I'll likely be starting Chlomid in the next month or so and don't want to still be nursing when I do that.
I already know I'll miss those evening sessions right before bed, but I think we are both ready.

We are still nursing about 5-6 times per day on my days off...Upon waking in the morning, before her 2 naps, before bed, and usually once in the middle of the night. But my DD's solid intake is very poor, and she is struggling with the transition to WCM. I don't mind our nursing schedule at all, but I'm desperately wanting her to fully transition to WCM at daycare so I can stop pumping at work.
I really wish I did a better job with a schedule with her. I might have been a little too idealistic thinking that she would develop a pattern all on her own. It is interesting to see the variety of what these babies do. I think N@ just might be a long timer even if I want to wean. My SO kind of laughs at me and says "well, you wanted to do attachment parenting, look like you got it". I don't regret anything, I just wish I could wean to just morning and night. Nursing throughout the night is a bit old too, but oh well.

I SAH but DS has always been the most distracted nurser ever. From 6-10 months, I had to force him to nurse 3 out of our 6 sessions by wrestling him in a dark room. We have the 3 sessions left that he is actually interested. He definitely has to be sleepy to nurse.

@caden1206 have you introduced WCM yet? You are pregnant right? Maybe she is nursing so much to increase/maintain your decreasing supply?

We are nursing 4-5 times per day on my days off. Usually it's first thing in the morning, late morning, mid-late afternoon, after dinner/before bedtime routine, and a short "top-off" session right before bed. She doesn't wake up to nurse in the MOTN. She takes bottles at daycare but refuses to take them from me or DH at home now. She is not great with the sippy yet so I think we will be nursing (and I will have to keep pumping at work) for a while longer. Once she can do the sippy well I will probably try to encourage her to drop the daytime nursing sessions so I can stop pumping at work.

I have introduced WCM, but she is not a fan. I don't think it is sweet enough for. Right now I give her a combo or WCM and chocolate milk so she gets it. I am just trying to survive with her and get WCM in her. I haven't noticed any digestive issues, so I think it is just preference.
My supply has been crap for a while now. It pretty much tanked with my first loss and never recovered in between my second loss and this pregnancy. Nutritionally it is OK BC she does great with food. But, I am going to be honest nursing pregnant makes my skin crawl. Plus, I am on progesterone and that just makes it worse. I think I might be tandem nursing in the near future (assuming this pregnancy continues well).
5 am, before naps, before bed. Sometimes he'll take a swig here and there throughout the day, but I think he's just making sure it's still there. I give him BM in a sippy during the day. He also nurses 2x overnight.
Emmett is down to 3 times per day. He nurses when he wakes up in the morning, and ten again after his first nap. He gets a sippy of WCM after his second nap, and then some more during his afternoon snack. He nurses again before bed.
I am about to drop the after nap nursing session as well, and just offer a sippy of WCM then too.
I think Em will do fine. He's been trying to self-wean since about 8 months, and I have to pretty much force him to nurse sometimes. I'm sure he'd be fine if we stopped nursing cold turkey.
I feel like such an odd duck. I think I might cry if A self weaned any time soon. I'm hoping to make it to 2 or 3. I'm glad he's still nursing constantly.
DS is almost 13 months old and nurses 4 time a day: first thing in the morning, before his two naps and before going to bed. I'm not planning to change this routine during next couple of months but I plan to be done by 18 months. I think I'll replace nursing for naps with WCM around 16 months old. But I really enjoy BF in the morning and at night so we'll see how it all goes.
I think if I tried to replace a nursing session with WCM she would be like thanks and now give me my boob. Then again there is no schedule with our madness.
We're down to 1 to 2 times a day. Mostly mornings or if he wakes up in the middle of the night. I assume he'll be weaning himself soon, but I'm so happy to have made it this far!
