Question from IF about Heparin

Hey ladies, 

Once again I would like to tell you congrats, and I hope you all are doing well.

I am in the 2WW of my first IVF/FET and my RE prescribed Heparin for my clotting issues.  I asked why not Lovenox (because it seems like thats what everyone else gets) and I got a long drawn out answer about things I can't even remember, and that he would discuss switching to Lovenox with my OB at the end of the first trimester when I get released.   Well that being said I know that most women who get put on Lovenox usually get switched to Heparin somewhere around the last 6 weeks or so.  So I am just curious how in the heck do you deal with the bruising? And is there any way to prevent it?

    I'm on Lovenox- and my doc is going to switch me to Heparin later on (I think around 33 weeks? Can't remember what she said). I'm not sure why your doc would do the opposite, but if you are concerned, call and ask the nurse to give you a refresher. I know the halflife of heparin is shorter (12 hrs vs 24 with lovenox) so maybe that has something to do with it? Honestly I don't know.

    I don't think anything will prevent the bruising- I do the injection as far away from my belly button as I can- sort of right by the hip, in the fleshy "love handle" part. It seems to hurt less the slower I go and the farther away from the belly button I am. But both sides are still bruised up! I've been on it for 7 weeks and it is not a pretty sight :-S

    4 IUIs with Clomid, Letrozole, and Menopur. All BFN.
    9/12: lap / hysteroscopy: found and removed mild endometriosis, cervical polyp, and 2 para-tubular cysts
    5/13 IVF #1: Follistim, Menopur, Ganirelix, 10R/4M/4F, ET of 2, 5 cell and 4 cell, no frosties = BFN
    12/13 IVF #2 = November / December 2013. Microdose Lupron Protocol: 15R/6M/6F, Froze all 6 due to high E2 and P4

    Delivered by c-section at 32w0d 8/15/2014 due to preeclampsia/HELLP syndrome

    Ice!! Ice before and immediately after and avoid rubbing the area. I put a gauze pad on the ice pack and ice ASAP after the injection. GL!

    Dh:34, no issues.  Me:31, Endo, slightly hypothyroid, deformed ovary, paracentric inversion.
    4 Gonal-F, Cetrotide, HcG, Crinone +TI cycles= all BFN
    Lap in 2012 to remove large unresolving cyst discovered endo and double lobed ovary.
     6 Gonal-F, Cetrotide, HcG, Crinone IUI cycles= All BFN,
    1st IVF w/ICSI- June '13 Antagonist: Gonal-F, Menopur, Ganirelix, HcG, Estradiol, Crinone= 7 retrieved, 4 mature, 1 unfertilized, 2 abnormally fertilized, 1 normally fertilized.  2DT of only embryo and our miracle BFP.
    Our beloved baby boy was born sleeping Oct. 13, 2013 due to pROM/IC/Uterine infection.
    2nd IVF w/ICSI- Feb. '14 EPP/lupron/antagonist: Estrace, lupron, HGH, Gonal-F, Menopur, HcG, PIO, lovenox, doxy/dex.=21 retrieved, 16 mature, 15 fertilized!!  5dt of 1 blast/ 6 frozen. BFP!  Beta 1 9dp5dt:83.9  Beta 2: 11dp5dt: 145.2  Beta 3  14dp5dt: 497  Please be our sticky rainbow baby!

    So it seems like there is bruising from either blood thinner,  my weird protocol (if this works) is either 2 shots of Heparin all the way through pregnancy or Heparin-Lovenox-Heparin.  I agree it is different, sometimes I think I am getting tortured with needles.

    Yeah- blood thinners increase bruising no matter the brand. Hopefully it won't be too bad for you though!!

    Not any more than otherwise. The 'burn' is still there, but the initial needle jab gets numbed out! My RE nurse gave me the ice before and after tip and it really helped me.
