Anyone have the Mirena IUD? How do you like it?

I'm getting this done a week after 6 week PP check up. What are your opinions?

  • Be prepared for the bleeding for awhile after, I am still spotting after 2 weeks. Otherwise I am very happy with it. I haven't had cramping or pain.

  • When I got mine, I was still going through the PP bleeding. I bled a total of 2 more weeks and have merely spotted once or twice for a day each time since.

I love it. I don't even feel it.

  • I like it now that I finally quit bleeding.

I had mine inserted in August and bled up until a month ago. Not very light bleeding either.

My doctor advised that I check it every month to make sure it is in the proper position, etc. However, I have only done that once. I am slightly nervous now (because I haven't been checking it) that I have read about many women becoming pregnant while having a Mirena (and not checking it). Supposedly, it can move out of place and then you can become pregnant.

  • I had one before getting pregnant. I had never had kids before. I had it removed and 4 weeks to the day later got my BFP. So no worries on the fertility front if you want another baby sometime.

Otherwise I really loved it, no real periods to speak of, I did spot for the first few months though (and I mean everyday). ?I had some pretty good period like cramps for about a week or 2 after insertion (but that may have been due to never having kids). ?No other side effects and I will probably get another one after we have the baby!?

  • I think there was an earlier post on this but I can't find it.  I had one before I had Heidi for about 10 months.  It only took us 2 months to get pregnant.  The one I have now was inserted at 8 weeks pp.  No problems.  Some spotting but no discomfort afterwards.  It did however cramp like the dickens going in both times.  But I still choose the Mirena over other methods any day!  HTH.
