Time of the day to start pumping to build a stash...

I would like to start pumping soon to build a stash in my freezer. When is a good time to add a pumping session into my day without affecting breast feeding. Also, do you pump for a certain time or until the breast is empty? Thanks!

  • I am ff and pumping. I find I pump the most milk in the am ( enough for two bottles). I also pump until no more milk is coming out. Hope this helps!

  • you make the most milk in the mornings, so add in the pump then. I feed LO and then pump right after.

  • People always say to pump after the first morning feeding because you make more milk then. That never worked for me with DD1 because she was constantly attached to the boob in the morning. So IMO the best time to pump is whenever LO gives you a Long stretch between feedings. With DD1 I pumped at 10pm. This LO usually sleeps 2 hours after her morning feed so I may try to pump in the morning but realistically I will probably have to wait until DD1 goes to bed and pump in the evening again. I pump until the breast is empty. Don't expect much in the beginning, 0.5oz was about all I got.

Same as @ lica001. I'm an odd ball in that I always pumped at night with DD and plan to do the same this time. For me it's less chaotic when LO is asleep. It took a while for my body to produce a good amount at this feeding, but I kept up with it for almost the whole time I bf with DD and it gave me a nice extra bit!
