What's your birth control plan?

I'm strongly considering an IUD. I love my boys, but no more surprises this time around ;-). Has anyone done any research on the topic of synthetic hormones and breastfeeding? (Yeah right, who has time to do research, I sure don't!?) I'm thinking of going with Mirena, but it releases a low dose of progesterone. Paraguard is hormone free...but I'm guessing this isn't something I'm gonna want to have put in then taken out in 6-12mo when I'm done breastfeeding. What are others doing for birth control who don't want any more kids for a few years?

We're done too. I'm going to take the mini-pill until DH gets snipped. The plan was for him to get snipped on his two weeks off after the baby was born but it hasn't happened yet.

I was all set to get my tubes tied during my RCS, but changed my mind that morning. So for now we are using both condoms and the pill. I will never get an IUD again.

DH has azoospermia (zero sperm count) so that's pretty much a done deal. Though right now it seems like abstinence is our BC method...lol

"Everything but" - intercourse is crazy painful so I'm not planning on us having any until we want to TTC #2. DH is semi on board. Thankfully everything else we do do is pretty darn fantastic and keeps us both happy.

Hormonal birth control really messes with me anyways, and exacerbates my vaginal pain, so I'm thankful to not need to take any

I started the mini pill 3 weeks ago. I was on it before getting pregnant and loved it. We're planning on trying for #2 when DD is 1 as well so I didn't want an iud.

I got the mirena Friday. The hormones tend to stay in utero therefore no systemic flow of them. I did read a lot about it and it's safe during breast feeding. I'm just glad not to take a pill everyday. The insertion was a breeze and I barely noticed any cramping.

Pull and pray right now, until my Rx for the mini pill is filled, then I will take that for a few months. My midwife said I can get back on Nuvaring after six months.

Honestly though... Pull and pray. We did this for 4 years without an accidental pregnancy and then used fam to get pregnant.

I'm surprised by how many practice withdrawal because its generally frowned upon. I had a bumpie accuse me of trying to trick DH into getting me pregnant because I mentioned this once on the TTC board.

I am going to try out the Mirena. I have an appointment to get it put in on Friday. I was interested in the Paraguard first since there are no hormones, but I haven't had a regular period since I was 18 and I was scared the Paraguard would get that started again, while the Mirena can sometimes make you go without them and I've been kind of spoiled without one so that was really my deciding factor. I was on the pill since I was 18 too and didn't get periods, so that's why I think I might not get them with Mirena. So we will see. Don't worry I do understand that I can get my period on Mirena but I will just see what happens.

Sign me up for pull and pray. It worked for years before trying to get pregnant with dd and I'm breastfeeding and if we accidentally get pregnant, it wouldn't be the end of the world (though we'd ideally like to wait a year or two).

I'm getting the mirena at 6 weeks. Midwife said it would have no effect breastfeeding-wise. I hate condoms.

I had the Mirena. It was all fine and good for the first few months, no period, no problems. Then I would bleed super heavily for about 10-12 days out of the month, the next month nothing, then back to bleeding. Sex became painful for me, and I think (but not confirmed) that I got pregnant while on it. I had 3 positive tests for 2 days then bled so heavy for another 12 days. So it's just not for me.
