Nipple Strike?

LO latched on perfectly for a week.. A couple of days ago he has started rejecting me! I called lactation and have tried all the tips they gave me. He last nursed Wednesday night. Anyone else experience this?! I hate pumping all the time! I try to nurse every feeding for 20 min and it turns into a fit fest...

Re: Nipple Strike?

  • DS hated the lanolin. He would push me away until I wiped it off. I switched to coconut oil. He also pushes away if he's gassy so I'll burp him before a feeding too.

What did the LC say? I'm curious ...

Mine refused my left side for a couple days. All of a sudden she accepted it again. I don't understand babies....

At random times DD screams at my right nipple and refuses to latch. I *think* it has something to do with letdown but I wouldn't swear to it, since she sometimes latches for a second and then pops off and she sometimes just yells at me before even trying. And sometimes she latches just fine and empties the whole breast in 10 minutes. In our case I know it has nothing to do with the lanolin/Aquaphor combo I'm using because she does fine on the other side.

Babies are weird. What tips did the LC give you?

  • She said to switch sides, switch positions, skin to skin, and to always start on the fav boob..

I called again and they were no help. They said now that he's been on a bottle for 2 days that he's probably not going to latch. So Im officially pumping only every 2 hours and DS eats every 4hrs. :/ pretty bummed but at least I don't have to worry about the bottle transition for daycare in a few weeks! Staying positive but pumping all the time is annoying. Meh
  • Is it possible that your LO is really hungry when you try nursing, so much so that they don't have the patience to latch and wait for your milk to come down? I had that problem with DS I gave him some gripe water before each feeding to take the initial hunger pains away so he'd have the patience to latch and nurse. After a week or so I was back to nursing normally hope that helps!!
