Greetings from 2013

Mamas,
June is tomorrow! You're doing great. Keep working/resting/loving for that LO. I have some thoughts from my birth experience last year. Some are cliche and expected, but all I have found to be true.

  • Don't worry because it really doesn't help. :)
  • Breathe through those contractions and don't try to raise yourself up on your forearms. (I have no idea why, but I did that often. Moving my arms was so painful for a week afterwards.)
  • Don't settle! Ask for that extra pillow, barf bag, popsicle (for my inductees). If your nurse is rude, have your mom/SO/BFF/etc. to casually go to the nurses desk and request a new one. Believe me, you don't want the crabby nurse who's *this* close from her vacation to be a part of your labor/pushing experience. (This was my biggest regret.) You need a supportive nurse (and she was my biggest blessing during my time).
  • You're probably going to want that first meeting picture. Get one ASAP after the birth - focusing on the baby and love in the photo.
All births are different but if you have the luxury of thinking of and asking for these things, Go For It. You're not going to care about others' thoughts toward you when it's all said and done, but chances are you will care about your LO's birth story.

You are in my thoughts and prayers, Mamas. Your little ones are worth it.

    A-freaking-men.  I made this mistake with my first, and it made the experience SO much worse.  Thanks!!
