At 37 weeks, I was checked and was 3cm, 80% effaced, and station zero. The doctor told me not to be too far from the hospital, because I'd likely have a short labor. At my 39 week check-up, nothing had changed and I was losing hope that I would go before my due date. Memorial Day weekend, we had no plans since we were just playing the waiting game. Sunday night we spent doing house chores and BBQing with family ... still no signs of baby and after a long day we went to bed exhausted.
Shortly after falling asleep, I woke up having painful contractions. They were coming on fast and furious, like not even a full 2 minutes in between. We immediately called my sister-in-law and her husband to come over and spend the night with DD. About 30 seconds later my water broke and I started feeling intense pressure and an urge to push. We live about 7 minutes from the hospital, and we couldn't even wait for my sister-in-law to arrive, we had to leave DD sleeping in her crib and just go. Thank goodness we did, because less than 45 minutes later I gave birth. Needless to say, it was a far more exciting experience than we had ever imagined. Though it was all worth it in the end, as we had a beautiful, healthy, 9-pound, baby boy. He was delivered naturally after 40 minutes of labor, which left almost no time to get to the hospital, let alone any time for drugs.
