Rash on bum after c section?

Has anyone else developed an itchy rash or irritation on the bum after having a c section? I'm guessing it's from laying in the bed and the mesh panties.. Any reason to worry it's something more serious like scabies?? What ideas do you ladies have for itch relief??

Also my feet are still extremely swollen at 4 days post-op..any experience? Cause for concern?

Re: Rash on bum after c section?

  • No experience but I am sure it isn't scabies, unless you have been in contact with someone with scabies and scabies are more likely to rash arms, hands and elbows then your bum.

  • I'm 7 days post and had super swollen feet and mickey mouse hands for 5 days. It's been better the last couple of days. You're body is healing and the fluid retention is normal. I asked this same question on the c-section thread and other ladies have said it lasts about a week of so. Keep pushover fluids though.
Sorry I can't help with the rash though. Might be a combo of skin irritation from the moisture and heat.

  • Not sure about the rash but they told me to expect my feet to be swollen for a couple of weeks.

I'm not new. I just hate The Bump.

  • I didn't get a rash but I'm super itchy around the incision and numb around there and my buttox. My fluid retention and swelling was ridiculous for 12 days post surgery, I literally had to sweat (at night) and urinate it all out. I'm 15 days post surgery and still have the night sweats but no swelling. My doctor said due to my Preclampsia and being on fluids, magnesium and Pitocin for 50+ hours that it would take awhile for me to get it out of my system. I feel much better now. I hope you feel better soon!
  • No experience with the rash. Wonder if maybe you are sensitive to the Material of the panties, or the type of pad they put on you after surgery.  Did you happen to bring your own pads, and underwear? I bought a 5$ package of cheap underwear that I could I didn't care if they got ruined so I could have something more comfortable then the mesh ones. As for the feet. With my first c/s my feet swelled up like elephant feet.  This time they haven't been so bad. Drink lots of fluids, walk, and move around as much as possible to help reduce the swelling but expect it to last for at least a week.. GL hope this helps.

  • After seeing those mesh panties I would bet they would make me break out. Try some hydrocortisone and loose cotton pants/panties and see if it goes down at all.

  • I didn't have any issues with a rash for either of my Csections. I did have horrible swelling. I'm now 15 days post delivery and my swelling went down around day 12.

  • I've never had a c-section, but I have gotten a rash both times. I agree that it's from the mesh undies, and I thought also possibly from wearing a pad for so long.
  • I got a horrible rash after my first section. They thought it was the Percocet, but I knew it wasn't since I had taken it before. I researched and researched and came across PUPPS. The rash wasn't concentrated on my bum, it was all over and lasted for weeks. I doubt that's what yours is since it's only in one spot, but I feel for you. It sucks! Hope you find a remedy soon. I didn't get it this time thank God.

  • Definitely the mesh panties! Happened to me with my dd. I wore them for a few days post c section and broke out all over my bottom. Buy some large cotton granny style panties and try some hydrocortisone! Hope you feel better!
