Success after IF

Toddler behavior

E has this new thing that is just killing me. She insists on standing on my feet. For example I will be sitting on the couch, and she will stand in front of me on my feet while she talks to me or we play.
If I tell her to get off of my feet, she looks down and makes sure both of her feet are on mine. If I tell her that she is hurting mommy, she will grind her heels in harder. If I move my feet out from under hers, she will stomp on them.

Our only real discipline thus far has been time out. She gets upset, says she's sorry, then does it again.

Any tips? WWYD?

Hopefully it will just be a phase for E. M was doing it throughout the winter months, to both me and DH.  it was annoying but at least it didn't hurt that bad because I had thick slippers on.  I did tell him "don't do that, it hurts" but that never got anywhere. He just stopped doing it soon after the weather got warm when I switched to flip flops.  In fact, I had completely forgotten about this until you mentioned it.

Is it possible for you to position your feet so she can't stand on them? For example keep your feet up on an ottoman, or sit cross legged on the couch? After some time, she may forget about her latest "fad" and moves on to something else to annoy you.

  • We do the same as @Mnerani G does things like that and walking away or separating him from us seems to work well. I do give him the opportunity to stop the behavior by asking him to and explaining that it hurts me. But if he continues, it's separation and redirection that works best for us.

We do what @Mnerani‌ and @mdiblasi10‌ suggested. It's been pretty effective. With these type of issues, I try to remember that it is a battle with impulse control. Little stinkers just can't help themselves when something looks so fun.

  • V always did things like that to get a reaction out of me. The first few times, I gave him a warning (letting him know I would put him in time out if he did it again), and explained that it hurt. He usually ended up going to time out. When that didn't work, I started ignoring it completely. I would reposition myself so he couldn't stand on my feet, but I wouldn't say a word. After a few days of that, he lost interest and gave it up.

Yes, A does this sometimes and I hate it. I usually tell her sternly to get off my feet, it hurts.
