I am 6 weeks pregnant today with my first. I feel so unprepared as we are I the process of moving and I'm a new first-time mom to 2 step-kids. I want to start prepreparing for baby (I'm a big planner) but I don't know where to start? What can I do or start buying for baby or pregnancy now? I don't like leaving things to the last minute. Is it possible I'm already "nesting"? I feel so overwhelmed with all we need to do and buy!
Re: Is 6 weeks too early to start preparing for baby???
I started researching car seats and cribs and stuff like that pretty early but didn't actually register or buy things until around 20 weeks. I'll probably wait even later this time because I'll have less to buy.
Maternity clothes, everyone's different. I'm 7 weeks now and feel like I need maternity pants but I'm holding off.
My pants would no longer button at 11 weeks. That's when I bought maternity pants. I bought bigger bras around 8 weeks when it became unbearable.
I didn't read the other comments, but while you can certainly start buying things now, remember that loss is most likely during the first trimester. I would personally suggest starting with reading some books for now and waiting until the second trimester before making any purchases.
Another option would be to start setting money aside every paycheck and either having a separate savings account or putting the money on Visa gift cards so that when the time comes to make purchases you'll already have a fund started up.
I just try to think about how painful it might be to get rid of the things I started to buy if, God forbid, I were to lose my baby.

For example, at week 13 we will begin buying x and will need y total. It will also help spread out expenses to group major expenses into time buckets. A budgeting spreadsheet might be a good thing to start now as well.
Other things you might want to add to the to do list are things like review life insurance policies, discuss potential guardians for the baby should the need arise, wills, researching and visiting hospitals, a birth plan, researching/visiting and wait listing for daycare if applicable.
My husband and I are both planners and work in the financial planning/strategic consulting world so strategic baby plan is somewhere in our near future. I am fairly certain that it would be impossible for us to have a baby without at least 1 color coded spreadsheet
