Productivity at work is no longer in my vocabulary. Any tips?

I'm a CPA and work for a CPA firm. I've always strived to be the "shining star", the overachiever, the one with the fastest and most efficient work turnover...and then I got pregnant.

I have absolutely NO motivation to do anything at work, and there are parts of me that aren't bothered if the partners notice my decrease in productivity. The industry is "chargeable time" based and my chargeable hours have dropped over 50%. I'm not sure what the heck is going on with me, but I need a swift kick in the booty.

Anyone else dealing with the loss of motivation at work? Any tips on how to get back to being the worker bee? All I want to do is comment on The Bump, baby gear shop and step out of the office for naps.

I've definitely had days where I have been less than motivated lately.  It doesn't help that I'm wrapping up my role in one department and about to move to another one.  So I'm handing off work, closing some projects, but I haven't started picking up things for the new role yet.

Anyway, I recommend making a list for the day (or part of the day) then pushing through it to get it done.  In addition, you may want to download an app like Leech Block for your browser that you can set up to stop you from hanging out online for endless hours.  Good luck!

I am right there with you!! I work in marketing which is pretty fast paced as well and I just can't keep up the last few weeks. With morning sickness and extreme exhaustion, I had to tell my boss earlier than I wanted so he knew where my slacking was coming from. Luckily he was really understand.

As for picking back up the pace, I've been forcing myself to make work my only priority. Once I leave I can veg out all night long and not feel bad at all. I also get up every hour or so and take a quick walk around to keep myself from getting too sleepy!
  • Not only am I exhausted, I just really have no motivation and am really distracted. I know I will be off in like 4 months (Dr. said I'll probably be taken off work at 28 weeks), and I kind of can't wait. I was so happy to hear I'd be able to go on disability instead of using up my mat leave, so I have no qualms about going off early now. Isn't that terrible? I figure I'll be less fatigued soon and will try to be productive over the summer, but I'm not going to stress about it.

  • Get off the bump for starters. I joke, I joke.

I cannot focus mentally either. I have a job that requires a lot of thinking and honestly I'm more mentally tired than I am physically. Pregnancy brain is a real thing.

I'm ok if I have like a LOT of important stuff to get through - this morning my co-worker was out with a migraine and I think I accomplished more in 4 hours than I have in the last 3 weeks.  Actually a fairly nice reminder that I'm still a capable adult.
Looking ahead a week, my work schedule is going to get INTENSE, I'm half nervous and half stoked since busy means it'll at least go faster.

I'm a teacher as well. Good thing the year is wrapping up. 7 more schools days to go! We have been watching movies almost everyday this week and staying out for recess extra long.

I hear all you ladies. I am production schedular and it is high stress right now since my boss was fired. We have been having to work weekends and things are not catching up. I cant wait for some normalcy so I can be lax. But right now I am forcing myself to be motivated.

  • I take walks to get a burst of energy.

I can't surf the web easily at work so having a blocker might be good for you.

You could also grab a coworker and find an area to work together. I find that puts a little pressure on you to get shit done.

Honestly sometimes I just have to take work home. It sucks but I'm just not as efficient when I feel like I'm going to barf all day.

  • I've been struggling with this too.  I have to submit a weekly report of what I've completed - all research-type work.  It's so hard to stay motivated.  Plus, my work doesn't know I'm pregnant yet and keeps asking me to do overtime.  I was putting in about 45 hours for a while, but the past two weeks I was able to dodge it.  I really need to tell them soon.

  • Definitely struggling with this too. Fortunately it's my slow season, so it's not like I'm dropping the ball on anything. On the other hand, I sort of wish it was my crazy time -- I know looming deadlines would force me into productivity.

  • I have practically zerio ability to focus at work lately, too. What's worse is that I don't even really care that I haven't been performing 100%. It's probably bad of me, but now that my office knows about my pregnancy... I'll be using that to my advantage.

I'm growing a human! It's exhausting work, and the office is just going to have to take a back seat for a while.
