Babies: 0 - 3 Months

cereal/solids

when do you introduce them? aka... when do they get anything but breastmilk/formula. I am clueless on the next step!

Re: cereal/solids

  • We started a week ago with butternut squash.

  • our pedi said if she was showing signs of being ready we could start oatmeal or barley at 3.5 months mixed with bm.?
  • We'll likely start solids at 6 months if not just a little after. I think we'll skip the cereal and go straight to veggies/fruits.
  • Most pedi's reccomend 6 months to start solids.

  • alot of people here seem to start early (around 4-5 months).  The American Acamdemy of Pediatrics says to start at 6 months.  Personally, we're going to wait until 6 months, skip the cereal and start with veggies/fruit.  I am most comfortable with that plan after all the reading/research I've done.
  • I have also done a lot of research and reading and except for the WHO, I have read everywhere that solids should be started between 4 and 6 months and preferably no later than 6 months.  So, I wouldn't consider 4 months early but that's just my opinion.
