Progesterone Levels?

I got a call from the OB front desk lady telling me that my progesterone levels are low and that I will need to have blood work done again (thankfully, not 9 vials, but one- phew!) She didn't make it seem like it was a rush, and so I asked her if I could do it with my u/s next Wednesday. She said sure. Should I be worried and should I try to go in sooner? I guess I should have asked her. However, I didn't know what that meant until I got in front of a computer and googled it. I wish this wasnt like pulling teeth with them...

Re: Progesterone Levels?

  • Did she tell you the number? Have you had any spotting?

  • No she did not tell me the number. Barely any spotting... I should call back and ask.
  • My progesterone levels were not low at the time of my first betas but the nurse told me my OB wanted me to start progesterone suppositories due to my loss history. I asked her when I needed to come in and she told me as soon as possible. I think I would be starting them as soon as I could if I were you even if just for piece of mind.

  • If you've had any spotting at all I'd try to get them ASAP. I would think if you were really low they'd tell you that but without knowing the number I'd err on the side of caution.

  • Thanks ladies. I called her back up and she said it was at 10. So I just went in for another blood draw (2 vials this time, ugh). We'll see!

My progesterone levels were low too. I was at a 7.8 when it should've been around 20.
  • @curbs12 What is it at now? Did you have to have help to get it up?

Glad you went in right away! Progesterone is what supports the pregnancy until the placenta is formed and can take over between 10-12 weeks. It can fluctuate through out the day, but if it's really low you want to get it taken care of relatively quickly.

  • KJsbabe. All they did was take another blood sample and will have results on Monday. Doesn't seem to me like they are concerned about taking care of it quickly. Also, the HB was low on wed at the u/s... So who knows. Time will tell!
  • I agree with @fightersince83  Having the progesterone on board can only help.  Just my opinion, but I'd call them and ask them to call you in a script.  Why chance it if you take something to help?  I am on them until 10 weeks and my P is around 60.  You DEF want it higher than 15/20.

I just had my blood drawn on the 28th to see what it is at. I have to take prometrium 3 x a day. Doctor says once im at 10 weeks I can stop. I had a MC at 9 wks in jan and that could've been the cause, my mother in law had the same issue. I would call as soon as possible to see if they can at least give you something to raise your levels.
