Leaving 14 mo old baby for 16 days

My husband and I are going to Russia for 16 days without 14 month old and 7 year old. What should we do to prepare our kids for us to be gone that long? Baby will be weaned from nursing by then. They will be with Grandmas the whole time, but the longest baby has been left was 5 days and that was when he was 7 months and didn't really know better. I think I am way over freaking out about this, but I just worry.

  • I got DS one of his favorite books, but the kind where you record yourself reading it, when I had to be gone a lot wen he was really little. He's 7 now as still loves it. I also did a video if me singing bed time sings and telling him I love him.

  • Yeah I'd think that the 7 year old would be harder.  We left DS (18 months) for 7 days with my parents and he didn't really notice.  He cried a bit whenever he saw something that reminded him of us (like an old t-shirt) so my parents just tried to anything like that out of the way.  Otherwise he was completely content.
  • 7 year old will be fine. She spends 6 weeks away from us with her ... other dad.... during summer. Baby however is super clingy. I left him with Gma on Saturday for 2 hours and he cried non stop the whole time. makes me WAY more nervous.
  • My husband planned the trip, it was to Russia, so no, I couldn't bring baby. It ended up being a good time and the kids were fine.

glad you had a good trip. lol at this thread being derailed by people who disagree with your choice. did you notice big changes in your LO when you returned? i have two business trips in july that are not as long as your trip, but i'm still a little worried about my 14 mo.
