Going on #6 craptastic nap

Up until 3 days ago, DD would only nap on us. Until we discovered she is a tummy sleeper! So we haven't turned back since. Days 1 and 2 were pretty good with her napping independently, taking only one nap in the Moby as we were shopping.

Today has been hell. Nap 1- 10 min, nap 2- 25 min, nap 3- 30 min, nap4/5- 20 min, then got her back to sleep, then 20 minutes, nap 6- happening now. All of them requiring numerous pacifier reinsertions, and butt patting episodes. Needless to say, she is VERY CRANKY. I simply had to put her down that many times, as she was so cranky and tired I couldn't keep her up her normal 1.5-2 hrs.

Is is just transitional? I mean her body has to give in sometime, right?? She NEEDS the sleep! I have thought  numerous times today about just holding her, but I don't want to go backwards.

Any thoughts??

  • I'd keep at it, and try to get her to go back to sleep when you can - even keep trying for almost as long as you want the nap to be.  I think it's too early in your transition to think that this will be normal - you may still have a good napper!

  • Wow! She sleeps A LOT! I wish my DS napped that well. I get two MAYBE three naps a day. Nap 1 is about 30-60 minutes and nap 2 is about 30.
  • Well, it may seem like a lot, but when she wakes up still tired from ALL of those naps, it obviously wasn't quality sleep. between all of them today she was crying and yawning and eye rubbing, all day, except for a bit this am.

I don't anticipate having her take hours long naps every day, but 20 minutes just doesn't cut it for this kid!
