February 2014 Moms

Is this a big deal?

Backstory:  On Tuesday when I picked up the boys from DC one of the other kids had had an accident.  There was not a change of clothes for the poor girl because the mom had not replaced them so our DC provider had her in her underwear and her t-shirt.  The kids were playing for about 10 minutes before the girl's mother picked her up.  The mom lost her shit and proceeded to pull her daughter out of DC completely because of the incident.  She felt it was promoting sex and that any parents that were okay with that had poor morals and values and she didn't want to expose her child to that kind of behavior.

So now I'm second guessing myself.  Is she over reacting?  Or am I too lenient about these kind of things?  My first thought was that the kids had no idea that it was a big deal at all (DS2 is the oldest at almost 3.5).  My second thought was that it was the mothers fault for not having a change of clothes.  What do you think?  Would you have a problem with this?

  • @ChiaWombat Glad I could help :)

  • Glad I'm not out there on this one. FWIW, the little girl was totally happy playing so I don't think she cared one way or the other.
  • Our DC has extras just in case but that mom is crazy.
I hope to create a real siggy but first I need some sleep!

    Mom to Lily and Colin!
  • To me, it would seem that the daycare having some spare clothes would be a courtesy, not a requirement. If a parent doesn't provide clothes, then underwear it is. Crazy mom is crazy.
  • Cra-to-the-Z. People need to chill out!

  • What did the mom expect her to wear if she didn't have a change of clothes?  That other mom is ridiculous.
  • I don't understand how that is promoting sex. even if she was completely naked it wouldn't be promoting sex because they don't know what it is. the mom should have had a change of clothes but as the mom, I would have been apologetic that I didn't have new clothes, not accusatory that DC did something wrong.

  • Ditto everyone, that lady is crazy and good riddance to her.

FFS, a girls bathing suit covers less than a tshirt/undies and no one is freaking out at the beach. I doubt the kids even cared.

I do feel sorry for that little girl though.

  • Da fuk? Last time I checked when our kids are playing there is absolutely NOTHING sexual about it! It makes me skeevy that that is the first thing that crossed her mind! She is over reacting, but it's weird that the DC doesn't have extras (when my kids went to DC anything they out grew I would donate) the other thing is how did you find this out? They really should not be sharing anything with other parents unless is a illness and even then it's a posted note saying xyz was recently diagnosed and is contagious.

It sounded like OP was there when lady lost her shit, no?

Maybe DC already gave out the extra pairs of stuff they had that fit her? While it's nice that DCs have those things if/when they do, it's really not their job to have clothes for the kids. This lady had no business blaming them for her lack of preparation.

And ITA the idea that sex is the first place her mind went really speaks volumes about her.

It actually worries me for the child. I've known people who were like that when I was growing up. Their kids just did not do well socially as they were always freaked out about their parents reactions for the most ridiculous things.
  • That woman is clueless... she is really going to flip her lid when her daughter gets 'kissed' by a friend that's a boy at some point.  Poor woman, sounds ignorant.

Unfortunately, DD2 has come home in boys underwear/pants a couple of times when she's had an accident and she didn't have any extra clothes at daycare.  We just wash them and return them. Not a big deal.

She hadn't had an accident for months and outgrew her extra clothes there and just had an accident two weeks ago.  I showed up to pick her up and she was wearing her shirt and a pull-up.  NBD. Seriously, what do I expect my DC provider to do when she had and no one else's clothes fit her?? That's on me!

I agree with everyone else. In fact my kid was walking around with one shoe yesterday because no one could find the other one and I just thought it was funny. And I'm pretty anal about everything. So yeah. That mom should give back up clothes. Duh.

I didn't mean to make that sound as if I was placing blame on the DC, and if op was there during the scene I understand how she found out then :)
  • Yes I was there when it happened...in front of all the kids (smh). We go to a small home care and I don't think keeping extras was on her radar. She tried to use other kids clothes but she didnt fit. In fact, she was wearing one of my kiddos pull ups just to cover her up.

Yeah, I'm sad for the poor girl. She has a looooong life of living up to really wierd expectations.

First of all, this woman has been a mom long enough to know that you always pack at least one change of clothes for your child. Second, she's a lunatic for thinking the DC was promoting sex. It makes me wonder what's going through her mind when it seems like any other person would have understood and even felt embarrassed about not having packed extra clothes.
  • Better she leaves DC now. She's a time bomb waiting to go off.
