When did you start showing and/or gaining weight?

Hey ladies! Does anyone who's done this pregnancy thing before remember when you started to show, or when your clothes started fitting a little too tight? I have a super gorgeous but fairly form fitting bridesmaid dress for a wedding that's going to fall in the first week of my second trimester. The bride doesn't care what dresses we wear as long as they're some shade of blue so I could get a new one that's looser but I really don't want to. Probably I'll wait until it's sooner and see if this one starts to not fit but I just thought I'd see what you all think. Thanks!!

I was just looking at pictures from my last pregnancy (second), and right now, I'm about 8w, and I look like my previous 16w pictures. OMG. I probably didn't REALLY show with my first until I was maybe around 15 weeks.
    OMG too many tickers...

I didn't show with my first pregnancy until I was about 6 months.  I didn't need maternity clothes until closer to 7 months.

As far as dresses go, if you're unsure, sometimes empire waistlines will work for longer periods of time without having to shell out the money for a specifically labelled "maternity" dress.

Pants became uncomfortably tight around 13 weeks and I had the smallest of bumps around 19 weeks but I didn't pop until around 25 weeks.

    Edit: typo

  • This will be different for everyone.  Around that time, I went to a wedding and a few of my dresses that I thought would work fine wouldn't zip.  It wasn't so much my belly as it was my boobs!

I was in a wedding on May 17 (at only 7w4d).  My dress fit perfectly fine in the tummy area, but it wouldn't zip past my now huge freaking boobs.  I had to get a larger dress to fit my boobs, even though the new dress was big in my stomach area.
  • I didn't start to really get a bump with my first until 15-17 weeks and could easily fit into my regular clothes until 22-23 weeks or so.
  • I started to have a small bump around 4 months but I was wearing maternity jeans before the end of my first tri.... No one probably could tell but it was more comfy

  • With my first, I "popped" around 17 weeks. I am 6 weeks and wearing some maternity stuff because I hate being uncomfortable in any way. I'm not showing, but my stuff is snug and I hate it.
  • My first pregnancy I wore my normal clothes through my first six months. Here's hoping I last that long this go round.

  • I was already using the "rubber band" trick with my pants around 10 weeks last time and had to switch to full on maternity at about 14 weeks. If it were summer, I think I would have been able to get away with sundresses longer. This time around, I'm already thinking about switching to maternity, at least for work. I have a few dresses with empire waists, so I'll try to mix those in as long as I can. My pants are uncomfortable and the maternity clothes make me feel less like a 10 lb sausage in a 5 lb bag.

  • I didn't show with my first until 18ish weeks. However, my hips spread early, and my size 2 pants didn't fit by 8 weeks.

  • Somewhere between 16 and 20?

I thought I was showing at 16 weeks...

I was super proud of my pumpkin belly at 17 weeks, though now looking back, I'm not so sure... lol!

It was probably around 20, though, by the time others could really tell. This was my half-baked picture that I took in a hotel room bathroom. I was in Orlando for a teacher's conference. :)

  • With my first I started to show aroudn 13-14 weeks. I was very obviously pregnant by 20 weeks. That being said, everyone is different. You will probably have to wait a while to know for sure what will work for you.

  • With my first I was so sick I lost wait in the first tri but started wearing maternity clothes around 14 weeks bc my reg clothes were getting uncomfortable. Didn't really start to show until 5/6 months.

This time looks to be a different story as the bloat is out of control haha

I just got my bridesmaid dress for a wedding I am in, in September and this is totally my problem already. Cannot. Zip. Over. Boobs! I think I am going to exchange it for two sizes up and have it altered. Easier to take a dress in than let it out.

If this is your first it will be awhile. I think I didn't start showing until 14-16 weeks with baby #1.
With pregnancies #4-7 it started about 5 weeks when I noticed and 6 weeks when others (who know me) were able to notice.
I will be 7 weeks tomorrow and am struggling to always wear bigger shirts.
This is me last Saturday. I did NOT look like that last Friday.
I always gain weight early, usually 20lb in the first 20weeks. Thankfully it really tapers off! with my first I only gained 3 pounds after that! Doc had no worries!

  • I didn't show until around 6 months with my first. Was still in my regular jeans. Second time a lot quicker... I was in a wedding during my second trimester and the dress was TIGHT on my boobs!
  • I'm 9 weeks and look about 5 months.

  • Christina_Diane I'm a size 2 too! Did you get back into your size 2 clothes after baby? I'm also pretty nervous to push a baby out my thin hips. Good to hear they grow though. My husband is huge & This delivery is going to suck I know it already!
  • I am pretty short waited, so I was wearing a bella band by about 8- 10 weeks, and had some maternity clothes by 14 weeks or so.

    I would say I had a clear "bump" by 18 -20 weeks.

I didn't gain much weight though, maybe 18 pounds total and most of it was in my 2nd half of pg.

  • Geez, I'm only 5weeks but I've already gained 30lbs.  Ok, so maybe I gained most of that post wedding but still.  The lady at the nail salon asked me if I was preggo (before we found out). . .it was upsetting then but at least now I have an excuse.  :P

  • @heidih21‌ I completely understand! I have also put on 6-8lbs at 7 wk3 days thanks to coming off of a diet. I am so bloated I have already been using the rubber bands on my pants. I expressed my concerns to my doctor this week and she was adamant that I not try and lose any of the weight I already put on and to just try and eat what I can since I have been dealing with horrible nausea. I'm just hoping/praying it slows down. I'm also very very short waisted so I fear I'll pop straight out.
  • Well, I was hoping I could hide it till 13/14 weeks but all my summer shirts are maternity anyways from DD and they are all that fit and of course they show the pronounced belly! Not sure if I can hide it too long...

@joujouwish don't necessary figure that big husband means big baby. My husband was a 10lb+ baby at 24", he is now 6'8" and 300lbs- when with DS1 I was afraid I would deliver a toddler. My OB said they typically take after the mom. Don't know if that is really true, but DS was only 8lbs 11oz (and I was induced late). So really not as big as I was expecting. In other words- Don't worry about that!
My husband and his brother were 10+ pound babies and I popped a 6lb baby out :)

Edit: I am also a size 2 (or a 4 in some stores).

  • With my first, I was 18 weeks before I really looked pregnant. I went to a wedding at 14 weeks, wore a normal dress, and no one could tell I was pregnant. I'm 5'10" with a sort of athletic build, if that helps.

As others have said, all of this depends on your body type and what number pregnancy this is for you. For this, my second pregnancy, I already have a decent blump going on. Definitely wearing a lot of empire waists and maxi dresses.
