3rd Trimester

Very sore fingers and weak hands??

Hi ladies,

For the past couple of weeks my fingers have been very sore...worse in the mornings but lasting all day.  They feel like they could belong to a 90 year old lady!  They are not swollen and do not appear any different.  Also, my hands feel weak when I squeeze them or try to hold something.  No pain in my wrists or arms.

Is/Has anyone else experienced this?

TIA!!

  • I have gestational carpal tunnel and I feel like I have old lady hands all day too. At night when I lay down they go completely numb. Good times... good times.

  • Me too. I think you are supposed to get the wrist supports and wear them at night, I'm going to ask my Dr. I've just kind of been living with it but last night my right hand was really bad.

  • My fingers are quite swollen (started pg wearing my size 5 rings, bought size 7 rings after xmas and they're too small now) but I find it to be the worse in the middle of the night, when I get up to go to the bathroom and washing my hands, my knuckles hurt and I can barely grasp the soap... usually in the day it's not too bad but I can still feel the pain in my knuckles if I try to make a tight fist.  I haven't talked to my doctor either, since I just related it to the swollen fingers.  I'd be interested in knowing for sure, but I don't have another appointment until March 1st!

I've never been officially told this is what it is, but I'm fairly certain I have this as well. My hands suck in the mornings a lot anyway, but it has been horrible the last couple months.

I agree. It's to the point, for me, that part of my right hand is swollen too (in between two of my knuckles and down the hand). I'm going to bring it up with my doctor on Thursday but I feel like it's a lost cause...one of those beloved pregnancy symptoms that can't really be fixed

  • I am 26 weeks and I have the same thing happening, it started about a week ago.  It happens mostly at night and my finger joints and hands get incredibly sore and fall asleep frequently.  They get so sore that it wakes me up a night.  Seems to ease up somewhat during the day though.  I didn't have this with my first two pregnancies however, I was much younger then and they were both girls....I wonder if it's my age or the fact that I'm having a boy??  LOL
  • Yup carpal tunnel most likely. Mine has been getting worse. I have braces on both wrists at night. I can wake up to them pins and needles numb sore. Swollen.

Sometimes if I bend the wrist the wrong way there will be pain in the wrist itself. Have not worn my rings in months.

As I type my fingers are numb.

Going to get compression braces my Dr told me about. Can get at Walmart. They go on like a glove but have holes cut for fingers to come out.

The braces I have now are not working dr said the others might work better.

Is that what this is??? I've wondered. I've spent the past couple of weeks picking up a pitcher of tea and having to almost drop it on the counter because my hands go numb? And at night they stay numb. I can't crack my knuckles (I know that's bad) either because they feel strange?

Carpal tunnel. Hmmmm. Do you know if it is supposed to go away after baby?

It should go away after baby. Everything is swollen so the grove where the nerve is in your hand, wrist gets swollen that is what causes the pain. Should go away.

Some people get it from repeatative jobs typing ect.

My girlfriend just had surgery on her wrist for it hers was so bad from her job. Had surgery on her other one last year.

Pregnancy does bring carpal tunnel on due to all the swelling that interferes with the nerve.

ah! Awesome. Well thanks for that :) Hopefully it goes away. I do spend a lot of time on the computer with my job, which I'm sure doesn't help. Oh well, 12 days… (give or take)

Yeah it suppose to go away after.

When I worked at the animals hospital I was starting to get it. I changed careers to teacher and have not had any issues. Until now. Lol. So I so hope it goes away for me after. Lol
