Pelvic Pain (SPD)

Since about 3 days ago, I've begun to experience pretty bad pelvic pain, particularly across my pubic bone and around my groin. I Googled it and found SPD and recommendations for a support belt as well as taking it easy. I'm HORRIBLE at taking it easy. I lift things I shouldn't lift, push myself too hard on household chores, etc. So, it seems I'm finally paying for trying to be super woman.

Anyone else experiencing these pains? How are you coping?

Re: Pelvic Pain (SPD)

  • I am having the same issue. My nurse told me to come to the office, currently waiting to see the doctor. I will lee you posted. I am 30 weeks and 3 days.

  • Very interested to hear what your doc says! I see the doc next Friday and I don't see a reason to call about this now. I will if it becomes excruciating, but if its manageable I can wait
  • I have had intense pelvic pain since the start of my second trimester. I wake up every morning feeling like someone spent all night punching me in the crotch. Every time I bring it up with my doctor she just says, "Yeah, that happens when you're pregnant." I am very interested in hearing other opinions and recommendations for making it better, because ouch.
  • I have the same problem (the pain and the pushing yourself too much)! My nurse told me that it's caused by the stretching of the cartilage between your two pelvic bones as the baby grows and that it's perfectly normal. It sucks anyway, though!

  • My doctor predicted stretching of ligaments. She checked the baby's heart beat which was perfect. She also checked the cervix area and it was good too. To be 100% sure, She took sample of my fibrosis and urine. I should be getting the results tomorrow. It still hurts when I am walking and is very uncomfortable. I will let you know about my test results.
  • I had this with my first and I have it again this go around, only it's not *as* bad this time and I'm convinced it's because I go for daily walks. If I don't walk for a few days things feel considerably worse. And either way, I wake up every morning feeling like I have a broken pelvic bone. I used a support belt last time and it felt like magic :)

  • I had it last pregnancy and again for this one. My doctor recommended a support belt. I never got one and I'm considering it now. As for lifting things it's kinda hard not to when I have two kids who want to be held.

  • I've had this with each pregnancy, worse the 2nd time.  It's not as bad this time, but I think it's because I'm a SAHM now instead of working at a desk job.  With my 2nd I had times where I could barely walk after sitting for a long time (I was really bad about getting up and moving).  So, I think moving around definitely helps.

I don't even bother to try to take it easy.  I have a 2 year old and an almost 4 year old.  I just go about my routine and figure the achiness and pain is a part of pregnancy.

  • I had this (less severe) prior to breaking my foot last week. My Dr actually referred me to physical therapy and that was helping IMMENSELY. For me it was affecting my quality of life a bit more since I work from home and don't get out as much as some people do- so it was important to me to keep up physical activity outside and going on errands outside the home. (now my foot's broke so WTF, it's all in vain)

Mine wasn't AS severe as it sounds like many have it, but PT helped pretty quickly and dramatically, but I know my PT said that as pregnancy goes on it gets harder to get ahead of. Good luck!

  • I've had this with both pregnancies but much worse and earlier this time around. It's torture just to lift my leg a little to put pants on. I've given up with telling my doc about it. Any time I mention. It they just say to walk more but that doesn't help at all and sometimes makes it worse. I hooe you find some relief! Just an FYI almost immediately after I gave birth it was gone.
  • I notice mine when I have to sit at work for a long period of time. I make it a point to get out for a walk every day and that helps a lot. I had it a lot with DS1 too. Lots of stretching and as much walking as I can. I can't avoid lifting because I have a toddler who thinks that the only sign of affection I can show him is by holding him.
