It's the little things...

I live in the city and take the train to work.  Ever since I started showing, someone's ALWAYS given their seat up for me to sit down.  Well, today was the first time not one person bothered, which was fine with me.  However, this did not fly well with another lady who was also standing.  She walked up to a gentleman who was sitting down and asked them to get up for me.  I was really touched that someone would go to that extent to help me out!  I will always remember this when I find another pregnant woman standing on the train and I don't have a seat to give her (not that i wouldn't before, but definitely will be on the look out in the future)... pay it forward!

Last week, we took a vacation and took the train for transport. I noticed that the ONLY people that offered a seat to me were women. No men, the entire week.

  • I haven't been sleeping and it's really starting to catch up to me. Yesterday I was just so exhausted, but I still managed to take our dog for a 4 mile walk after work. I was dreading making dinner, but when I got home hubs was already cooking! Let me just say, this NEVER happens. Our normal routine is I cook, he cleans up (which is perfectly fine by me). When I tried to do the dishes, he wouldn't let me and made me go do the work I had so I wouldn't be up all night finishing it. It was very sweet. He had a rough day today, so I think I'll return the favor. :)

Hmm, maybe people are shittier in Chicago but it's definitely not the norm that I get offered a seat :/  Doesn't really bother me that people don't get up and offer me their seat, but I do feel like I should get dibs if one becomes available which is also not always the case!

  • @MamaBovs‌ I live in Chicago! I take the brown line train and feel that people have been generally nice. I always find seats scarce in the morning. That's when most people are reading their books and don't ever look up (which was the case yesterday.). Again, Im perfectly fine standing, but agree that you should definitely get first available or take a seat that's been offered to you, without feeling guilty. I hope your commutes get better!!!

I live in a condo building and last week, I was carrying 4 bags of groceries which were borderline heavy. A neighbour was coming into the building at the same time as me. He insisted on taking my bags and accompanied me to my front door. He told me that if he saw me carrying too much again, he would rat me out to my husband. He said it jokingly and I did laugh.

I used to live in Chicago and took the brown & red lines most of the time. For a short period I lived in an area off the blue line and that was the worst - it would get so crowded I doubt anyone would even be able to notice whether a woman was pregnant or not. Anyway, on that particular line during rush hours I never saw anyone give up their seat.
Yep, I take the Blue Line!

  • I am currently visiting our old Boston neighborhood and def not feeling the love on the T. Screw you ya healthy, young undergrads on the green line.
  • I'm in NYC and all but one time I've been offered a seat. Sometimes people are slow to notice because of their tablets and smartphones, but eventually I get a tap on the shoulder and an offer.
