am i the only one?

I am 7 1/2 weeks pregnant with my first and I just found out. I am slightly freaked out about how all the sudden spicy foods are yummy to me and how my body is changing with out me knowing. I use to eat small portions but now I can eat a whole Wendy's meal and still want more. I read online "eating for 2" is just an excuse to pig out and my husband says its in my head but I don't think so... Also I find it weird that after throwing up Im really hungry when before I couldn't even look at food if I threw up! Am I the only one that feels this way?

  • I think what you're experiencing is fairly typical.  You're starving, but nothing sounds good and then you're too nauseated to eat, and when you finally find something that sounds good, you could eat multiple services of it.  Different women crave different things - some sweet, some salty, some sour, some spicy, etc.

As for "eating for 2", you kind of are, but not really.  Your blood volume increases, and you have to supply your growing baby with nutrients.  Your metabolism gets a boost to help with this, and so you're more hungry (usually).  This doesn't give you a free pass to each chocolate chip cookies for breakfast, lunch and dinner, but it does allow you to eat a little extra of the healthy stuff.

  • It is the opposite for me. I have to eat much smaller meals and am indifferent to food.
  • Always hungry all the time. I have never had a lack of appetite with any of my pregnancies.
With #3 I would be at work, eat pizza, run to vomit, then return to finish my slice of pizza.
It is so weird. Thankfully it doesn't last!
My doctor is laid back and says to eat what you want as long as you do eat a variety of foods (not all junk).

    I've heard it's more like eating for 1.1 - not 2.   :((
