Moms of Toddlers?

Im only 5 weeks, and its getting exhausting! I hope you are all faring better, my son seems to have decided he is now going to go through a wake up screaming with nightmares, all night long, wanting mom phase. He will be 3 soon. Last night i gave up and let him sleep with me because i just couldnt keep getting up every 1/2 hour!

Ugh.  I hear you.  DD has yet to STTN for more than maybe one or two nights a week.  And she's never been a napper.  I'm sooooo dead and with the m/s I have this pregnancy (after not having any with DD), I haven't had luck leaving the house, so I can't even wear her out at play grounds anymore.

  • My DS turned 3 last week, and we're in this phase as well. The nightmares started about two months ago, and they seem to have tapered off slightly in the last week or so. But the "wanting mommy" stuff seems to be increasing in the last week or so. Combined with the typical first trimester exhaustion, the lack of sleep has made for a tough time at work lately.

    Good luck!

  • Oh no! Hopefully it's a short-lived phase. I have a little guy is almost 3 too and while he's a good sleeper, it seems like he goes through some sort of difficult phase every few weeks and then it gets better. Right now it's being defiant and not listening to me. Independence is a good thing, right? ;)

  • I can sympathize!  My daughter will be in August and we transitioned her to a mattress on the floor about 5 weeks ago.  Everything started out great, until she started getting scared of the dark and letting her imagination play tricks on her with the shadows in the room.  She'll generally go at least 3-4 hours on her own, but then I get the "Mama, Come, I'm booed!" cries for help, so I'll just sleep with her the rest of the night in hopes of getting some shut-eye myself.  She'll scream bloody murder if DH comes instead of me, and it ends up taking me longer to get her to go back to sleep, so unfortunately he can't really be of any help in the middle of the night.  Last night she went 8 hours straight, so I'm keeping my fingers crossed that the good sleeping continues!

  • I feel a bit guilty! between exhaustion and quitting smoking my son is getting a much tougher mom than hes used too, which is probably a good thing but feels awful (my hubby always says i was to soft on him)

I hear ya on the exhaustion! I have a 3 year old and a 1 year old. Weeks 5-8 were extremely exhausting for me. I'm now 9 weeks and am starting to feel a little better.
I say do whatever you have to do now to help you get through these first couple of weeks, even if it means having to give in and sleep with him when he's having nightmares. I hope he goes through this phase rather quickly so you can get some rest!

  • In with you. My STTN one year old has been up most nights this week and my 2 and a half year old has been super clingy.

Ugh, my 16 month old has never slept well. Luckily she is my only one, so we make naptime a priority for both of us every day.

Oh yes. Dd was 2 in March and my sleeping through the night kiddo has stopped. She used to go to bed right away and now it's tears and kicking at bedtime. I'm so over it already

  • Ugh I'm with you ladies it's so hard now that you can't just lay down and relax after work. I come home exhausted and then have to run around for another 3 hours. I've literally been going to bed when he does around 830 . I'm terrified for what I will feel like in a few more weeks.

  • DD turned 3 last month. She still wakes up once each night for me to get in bed with her (or her into bed with DH and me). That coupled with having to get up to pee 3 or 4 times each night right now are making me a tired momma!

My 2 year old has only sttn a handful of times. This combined with us all having colds is a nightmare.
  • I feel you. My 2 1/2 year old usually gets into bed with us around 1 am, but lately he's been sitting up and screaming/crying inconsolably for various amounts of time.

It was especially terrifying one night when DH was out of town and DS came Into the room quietly and then woke me up, screaming bloody murder at the foot of the bed and staring into our closet. He didn't go to sleep for another hour, we just laid there as I held him and he stared into the closet. Closet still freaks me out!

  • Girl, I feel your pain. I have a 16 month old that is in perpetual motion and a 3 year old who doesn't sleep at night. I'm so tired!!

  • My DD is still an okay sleeper, so I have been doing okay. But even with 8 hours of sleep at night, and napping while she naps, I'm still exhausted.

  • Ugh it's awful here lately. My son just turned 2 on the 14th and he used to be in bed easily by 7:30-8 and sttn, now it's whining, kicking and fighting it every.single.night. I can't get him down before 9. I really hope this phase is short lived.

My poor dd (3yo) has been awesome, I on the other hand, suck! I came home every night last week and crashed. Cartoons on, come sit beside mommy and cuddle while she naps. DH isn't home so it's just us. I was literally waking up to feed her whatever my nausea would allow me to quickly grab from the kitchen. This week is a bit better. She isn't complaining! Lol.

My boys are definitely acting like 3-year olds.  Defiant, not listening, and spending much time in time out.  They are also extra clingy and don't like to go to sleep at nighttime, so I'm with you ladies on the exhaustion!!!  I feel like the walking dead most days!!!

  • DD is in a phase where every time I even think about sitting down, she grabs my leg and starts pulling and says "come on Mommy!" because I must go forth with her to play land. She also has hives and we are currently battling sleep due to the itching. Her appt with the allergist is on Monday so hopefully we can square that away shortly.
