what to expect at the NST?

I have a NST tomorrow and didn't ask enough questions about it, so now I'm left wondering...

So what should I expect? What will they do? Do all of them include an ultrasound or is it only if they call it a biophysical profile (I've been googling lol) and not just an nst?

Mine's tomorrow too. I've also been googling too. Good Luck to you. Have you been having any contractions, I've literally been having terrible contractions all day.

I've had contractions for 6 weeks, but lately they've been very sparse. I'm frustrated bc my body did everything on its own for my first baby and this time I'm dilated 4cm and my stupid body's not doing anything!

I've had the same problem, my DD was born at 37 weeks, this one won't show up at all.

I had a few. They just hooked me up to 2 monitors. One looks at baby's heart rate and the other looked for contractions. I just sat around and watched TV while they looked at the readings. Basically, they look at how the heart rate changes with fetal activity. The heart rate should go up with movement and stay up for a certain amount of time. They are either reactive (heart rate increased appropriately) or non reactive. I didn't have an ultrasound but I hear sometimes they do them if the test is inconclusive

I'm wondering about the ultrasound because my friend freaked me out... two of her friends had their babies late and the cords were around their necks... they think their bodies were protecting the babies by not going into labor... so of course I'd just like to peek in there and see what's going on. I'm going to call in the morning and see if I can schedule one around my nst...

I had 3 NST's and they just hooked me up to monitor that recorded LO heart rate and contractions (if any) and I also had a little button thing I had to push when I felt movement. No ultrasound with mine. Best wishes to you!

I had weekly NSTs and bpps with my pg.

At an nst you get straps around the belly and they record lo's hb. Lo has to have a certain number of hb accellerations in a set time.

A bpp includes an u/s where they look for fluid, practice breathing, muscle movement, cord health...and something else i am forgetting here at 3am.

Well NST is over with, it literally took longer to answer all the questions then it did to complete the test. They said baby is still nice and high so this ought to be an interesting next three-four days. Contracting like crazy and doing nothing. Looks like he likes his home----he's a momma's boy already.
