Fever for a day?

Very interesting situation here...
(Post got long...I'm wordy ;) )

Tuesday night J felt warm, was acting totally fine but upon taking temp he was at 101.5 (he tends to get higher temps when he is sick)

He slept in bed with me because he was restless and kept waking himself up in the crib. He was warmer as the night progressed, woke up upset, temp was 101.9 so I gave done Tylenol.

Wednesday morning his temp was 102.5. Tylenol brought it down a bit. He was super clingy and whiny and tired (definitely did not sleep well the night before) he also wanted to nurse constantly which is unlike him. Usually a wam bam every 4/5 hours. Temp was up and down w Tylenol every 6 hrs or so. He finally ate a few bites of fruit and sweet potato in the evening. Went to bed w/I Tylenol at 100.2 (not a fever) and woke up with 98.7

Talked w dr during the day. Just said to push fluids, make sure temp is controllable, and treat for comfort.

I don't see any new teeth trying to pop (although 102.5 seems waaay too high for teething, even molars...)

Could he maybe have just fought something off? I'm skeptical that the fever is really gone, I'm just watching him now. Thought this was a strange happening.

Just wondering if anyone else has seen this happen?

We have the concert on Saturday and I definitely don't want to take him if he is fighting off something or not well!

  • I can totally empathize with the verbosity.  I suffer from the same ailment ;-)

We've had this happen a couple times.  It's about 24-48 hours of ~102 temps, and then it goes back to normal.

We've never taken LO to the pediatrician over it (as it never got to the 103 mark, and he was still eating fine and giving us enough wet diapers etc).  I'd watch LO carefully over the next two days, and if he's back to acting normal on Saturday, I'd say you're fine to take him to the concert!

Thank you @musicalsilver‌ ! It seems so strange to me so I am happy to hear someone else has experienced it. His temp is still normal ~99.6, which is normal for him... He just seems a little extra tired and a bit more cranky. I really hoping "that's the that" and he goes on to feeling well! Thank you for reaching out!
  • My kids rock the one day fever so I don't think it's that odd :)

@elmoali ftm mom here... If it isn't glaringly obvious ;) He is sleeping on me now, fever still down but he's extra sleepy. Good to hear that other babes do this as well. Thank you!
  • @Jillsee sorry, I wasn't trying to pull a STM card on you lol  Just that both my kids do that :)  I think it's usually a sign of a low level virus so the fever only lasts as long as it needs to.  With two daycare kids, we'll in constant virus mode lol

@elmoali no worries! I didn't take it that way at all :) I felt silly asking because it seemed so strange! I really hope that's just what it was. He's only been sick twice and both times it was a hefty illness, RSV and another time with a 104.5 fever. Both lasted a while. Go immune system go!

@smpeachey Glad your lo is better now! J has been nursing well, denying solids, but continuing to nurse. Had a few bites last night and a few blueberries this am. Just pushing the liquids ;)
