Pregnant after 35

Intro/question *possible loss mentioned*

Good morning all,
Im 38, and my wife is 34. This is my first pregnancy after 4 failed IUI's. This was the second attempt with med's (Gonal F, Menopur, and trigger shot), and we got the BFP May 5th. My HCG's were rising appropriately until 6 weeks, then only rose from 1908 to 3400 after 5 days. My Fertility Dr, ordered a 7 week U/S this past tuesday and the sac measured behind at 6 weeks, with yolk/fetal pole but no HB. Dr. ordered another U/S for this monday, saying possible late implantation, we need to see HB on next U/S or it's a Miscarriage.  He said he didn't want to get my hopes up, and to prepare for worst (he's seen it go both ways in the past). I realize it's all a waiting a game and everyone is different, I am preparing for the worst, just wondering if anyone else has been through a similar experience and what the outcome was?

  • Ugh, the waiting game is the WORST!

I had a loss before my 8 week U/S before I got pregnant with my DD. And my friend just lost her recent pregnancy at 8 weeks (no H/B and the sac/pole was stopped at 6 weeks).

HOWEVER. 7 weeks is early to hear a HB-- and it's totally possible that your implantation was late. That's why my doctor won't do one before 8 weeks and at my appointment tomorrow, I'll be 9 weeks 3 days.

Hang in there. I know it's tough. Try to think positive thoughts. IF the news is not good on Monday, be sure to ask the doctor if he thinks taking progesterone suppositories next time would be helpful. After my loss, it's a given that I take progesterone supps for 16 weeks to support my uterus until it makes its own progesterone.

But in the meantime, I would totally focus on the fact that 7 weeks is typically too early to hear a HB. ((hugs))

  • Thank you ladies! Yes the waiting is awful!  I forgot to mention I am on the Crinone 8% progesterone gel daily and that has been decent #'s 38-39.  I haven't had spotting, but off an on cramping (not bad, just noticeable) since the beginning. I am trying to stay positive while also being realistic, such a roller-coaster of emotions (as if the hormones weren't enough lol).
  • Hi...sorry your going through this:( since your sac is measuring 6 weeks and you have yolk sac/ fetal pole don't give up hope. After your hcg reaches 1200 it can take 3 days to double , so your not that far off....wishing you all the luck in the world...
