No blood draw at first appointment?

I had my first appointment on Tuesday and it was pretty normal. Vital signs, pee in a cup, pelvic exam, and viability u/s which went well, little peanut measured 3 days behind but that's within normal range. It wasn't until the next day that I realized they never drew my blood. With my son I ha switched drs early and both drs had my blood drawn. Anyone else not get their blood drawn?

I don't particularly like this new dr anyway since he told me that breast feeding while pregnant can cause preterm labor and I should stop by the time I am 20 weeks and that he doesn't like to really do vbacs earlier than 24 months since previous c/s and I'll only be 20 months.

  • It's through Beaumont, their office is at RO Beaumont. The doctor is an older gentleman so I don't know if that has to do with it. I was on progesterone my first pregnancy so I would think they would want to check that. I have another dr lined up to meet with if I don't like how my next appointment goes in 2 weeks.
  • I didn't have mine drawn either and was wondering why but I figure they'll draw it enough times over the next 7 months to make up for it.

  • With my first appointment with my son, they did do a blood draw. With the first appointment with this one, they did not. I asked about it and my Dr. said something about the first appointment being confirmation of pregnancy, and that they were running into trouble with insurance companies drawing blood at that visit. What they do now is a second appointment that I think she said was the first "maternity" appointment, and they would do a blood draw at that one. Not sure if that is what is happening for other people, but it is how my Dr. explained it to me.

  • I use Botsford and I had a first OB appt with my regular dr where she did a pelvic exam, took blood for hcg levels and then scheduled my first U/S.  After viability was confirmed, I now have my first maternity appointment where they will draw blood and do those types of tests.
