So I started telling my extended family about my bump this past weekend- TWO of my uncles, independent of eachother, asked me who the husband was. Which, may not sound all that bad except for the fact that I'm 35 and have never been married, which as a member of my family YOU OBVIOUSLY KNOW. I tried to laugh it off at the time and said something like "oh, you don't need one of those anymore" but I really wish I had a better comeback planned that would better indicate to them that it was a not-that-cool thing to say. One of them - when I told him I was expecting at the end of Nov, even said to me "who, your brother?" (who is happily married), and I said no... to which he said "you're adopting?" no... "you're PREGNANT??" BINGO!
I realize things may have been a little different in their generation but how about some tact??? Shiiiiiiat.
Anyway, snarky comeback ideas welcome- as I'm sure this won't be the last time I'll hear crap like this!
Re: Need good comeback ideas for insensitive comments!
Honestly I tell people, that was incredibly rude and insensitive. That way you come off as the bigger person, they feel small as shit, and in the future they don't say anything like that to anyone else. Totally fine if they want to judge you inside their head, not so much out loud.
