Stupid hospital question

I'm traveling through Minneapolis-St Paul Airport for a a short vacation, and while my OB is not at all concerned about me traveling, she did strongly recommend I always know where the closest hospital is, since I have some complications that might necessitate quick medical care if they actually present themselves (unlikely).  I'll be 27-28 weeks.  Can someone tell me where the nearest hospital is to the airport that could handle a pre-term pregnancy complication? I live in St Paul, so I'm less familiar with the hospitals on the Minneapolis side.  I guess it will partly depend on the urgency of the situation.  I'm a bit confused, because all the hospitals seem to be pretty equidistant from the airport in terms of driving time.  Suggestions??

If you did indeed go into labor at 27/28 wks, you would likely want to be at one of the hospitals that is connected to one of the children's hospitals as you would likely need a NICU.... so Abbott Northwestern in Mpls (connected to Children's Mpls), United in St. Paul (connected to Children's St Paul) or Fairview Riverside (connected to Amplatz Childrens)

But, you live in St. Paul MN?  I'm guessing that your OB was implying that  find out what hospitals are close to your destination outside of MN??

  • Thanks! Yes, I already checked hospitals for my travel location.  I just wanted to know what hospitals were closest to MSP airport, since my local hospital is not that close.  You know, just in case I have an urgent situation in flight and need to get somewhere quickly upon my return to MSP.  Unlikely, but seems silly not to know this.
  • If you've got complications and you're at MSP, the closest place you want to go is up to United/Children's in SP... Otherwise Children's in Minneapolis... It's your preference but you should have already discussed this with your OB where to go if you do have a complication like that locally.  If you're going to have complications, you want to go where the LO has the best access to care. In the current days of GPS and Google on your smart phone, it's not like the olden days, but still scares the heck out of you to hear someone say that...
