Wow very same thing happened here a few months ago. Dad went to pick the baby up from daycare after work and they said she hadn't been dropped off. They found her in the back of the car, he must have done the same thing and gone straight to work
I read a similar article a while ago and we have someone on our caseload at our office who had this happen to them ( their spouse was the driver). Watching this person try to function now breaks your heart.
I keep LO's burp cloth and sweater/extra pacifier on my front seat now when she is in the car right next to my purse...so if I grab my purse I see those things.
I saw something that said you should leave everything in the backseat so you'll see the baby.
I got to the part where they rushed back to hubby's work....then clicked out of it.......but for some reason I clicked again to read the whole thing. UGH>
I've also heard to leave something in the backseat so you always remember. Heck today anymore, all we'd need to do would be to put out phones in the carseat, sad that we remember those (or go back because we quickly realize we don't have it) but may forget a baby My work bag and purse are always in the backseat.
They actually make a rearview mirror sign that says to check the backseat. It would also be good if (God forbid) you are in a serious accident and are unable to talk so first responders know to check the backseat. https://www.dontforgetbaby.com
Someone told me once that the "baby on board" sign is for first responders, so they know to check back seats etc.
So sad and terrifying at the same time. My husband and I have an agreement to text "how did drop off go" to whoever dropped her off when we get to work. I can't even imagine.
Just a little addition, I just read our local paper's website and they aren't bringing criminal charges against the mother that had it happen last year that I was talking about. I am very happy to hear that.
So scary!! I can't imagine how they felt. I'm pretty sure I saw a dateline or something about this before, a teacher who never drove her baby in the mornings to daycare had to for some reason and didn't rememeber that her baby was in the car until she left at the end of the school day. So awful
It can happen to anyone because it happened to me. I left Logan in the car when he was a newborn. It was 90 degrees out and I running on about four hours sleep. Charlie, then two, wasn't with me so the car was silent. I pulled up to the AT&T store and hopped right out. I walked in, starting talking to the guy there, handed him my phone then realized I left the baby. It was about 30 seconds but I COMPLETELY AND UTTERLY FORGOT HIM. Still makes me tear up 5 years later. I cried for hours then days. All I could think both then and now is what if I didn't remember? What if I remembered but too late? Leave your purse in the backseat ladies.

There's an article called "Fatal Distraction" that talks about people that have had this happen to and how it was decided if charges were going to be pressed. I couldn't read the whole article (I just skimmed it) but I guess it's a well known publishing.
Disclaimer: it's pretty bothersome if you choose to read it or google it. There are some parts I wish I hadn't read so that's why I started skimming over it.
I'm sure child care workers have enough to do, but when I first heard this I wondered why the centre didn't ring to say the baby hadn't been dropped off, like you would if a kid didn't show at school.
