Miscarriage/Pregnancy Loss

little intro & question

My husband and I lost our baby last week. I was 8 weeks. This was my first time experiencing a miscarriage. It's been a very difficult emotional rollercoaster. My bleeding slowed down over the last couple days and I had no bleeding all day today. Then right before bed I started bleeding again. It's a red period like flow. I'm wondering if this could be AF or if it's just more miscarriage related bleeding. Is there any way of actually knowing which it is? I am just so frustrated because I thought it was over and we could finally start to move on. The bleeding is just a constant reminder of what happened. Any

I am so sorry for your loss. There is a thread at the top of the page with others' experiences of a natural miscarriage. I ended up having a D&C and the bleeding from that lasted 2 weeks. It was then another 2 weeks before AF showed up, but everyone is different.

I'm sorry for your loss. Unfortunately if your miscarriage only happened last week the bleeding you're experiencing is most likely not your period. It's more likely to still be bleeding related to the mc. I had my mc just over 7 weeks ago and granted it wasn't a natural mc (I had a D&C) the bleeding lasted for almost 5.5 weeks and was all over the place. It would stop and start, would be really light one day and then reasonably heavy the next and just when I'd think it was over I'd start bleeding bright red. I actually got my first real AF just last week. You need to give your body a good while to get back to normal. I know it sucks and I'm sorry you're going through this. HUGS.

Thanks ladies. I feel like my doctor didn't give me any information about what to expect so I really have no idea what's normal and what's not.

I am in a similar situation after a natural miscarriage over 3 weeks ago. I am still bleeding fairly erratically. Thought it was over as I had very little to no bleeding for several days, only to start again, with cramping and more bleeding. After 3 weeks, my HCG levels are still not down to 0 and I was told it could take up to 2 months. Joy. It's definitely an emotional roller-coaster and I struggle with the pity party of feeling like my body has been through enough. I'm finding it difficult to move past this as long as there are still physical symptoms and as long as I have to do weekly blood draws in a dr. office filled with pregnant women. So sorry you're going through this and know that you are not alone.

I don't think there really is a "normal". Everybody is different and everyone's body handles a miscarriage differently.  I bled steady for about 2 weeks and on the 3rd week it was pretty sporadic.

You are going to have good days and your going to have rough days. Surrounding yourself with caring and supportive people helps. Thinking of you <3

I'm so sorry for your loss. If you were still bleeding a little and then it got heavier I'd say it's still from the miscarriage. I think how much/ how long you bleed might depend on how far along you were. I was only at 6.5 weeks and I bled for 4 days heavy and the last 2 have been minor spotting. That seemed to be what my dr expected but I've read a lot of stories on here and from googling that makes it seems like women who were a little farther along bled longer and had more erratic bleeding, which would make sense bc of more to pass out of the uterus.
