Internal checks

Just curious if anyone (particularly STM+) has a strong opinion (either way) about internal checks. I'm considering refusing them this go-round because they aren't really a good indicator of when you will deliver, and I/DS had an infection last time that was possibly due to bacteria introduced during internal checks.

I am doing a home birth but my midwife tries to limit them as much as possible to prevent infection. I am definitely glad for this. I don't think its necessary all of the time and it doesn't give you the whole story on how labor is progressing anyway.

I have refused them up to this point. I just don't see the need. I probably won't get one until I'm in active labor, if then even.

I don't have a strong opinion but was having them done (last appointment today). I know it's not a perfect indication but I liked having some idea of what's happening.

I refuse them. Why risk infection or premature membrane rupture for useless info?!

My midwife doesn't do them as there is no reason too not to mention the risk involve. In fact she rarely does them in labor either. In my 3 previous births she did it once.

I refused them until yesterday. I feel they are pointless until you're in labor. At 37w6d, my OB literally snapped at me because I declined. He made me feel wrong. I ended up going against my better judgement and had my midwife check me yesterday at 38w5d and I was not dilated but my cervix is soft.
